About Us:
At Firefly HR, we redefine what it means to find exceptional talent in the education and care profession. We work exclusively with a select group of exceptional clients and candidates, ensuring that only the best are connected with the highest quality opportunities - like this one:

Assistant Manager | OSHC / OOSH | Eastern Suburbs, Sydney

The Quick Details:

Join a truly supportive team where leadership is shared, not shouldered. This isn’t about ticking boxes - it’s about building quality with people who get it. Flexible hours, serious support, and a culture that believes in doing things properly.

About the role:

This isn’t your typical Assistant Manager role, and that’s exactly why it works.
This is a leadership role in a large, well established Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) service that values structure, quality, and real collaboration. You’ll be working closely with a confident and capable Director, supported by a broader leadership team, including 2 Educational Leaders, admin support, and specialists across inclusion, WHS, and other areas.

This is a role where your ideas are encouraged, your strengths are used, and you’re given the time and space to lead well.

  • Up to $90K + Super with flexibility for the right person (approx $103K package)
  • Full time, 38 hours and block shifts, ideal core hours are 1-6pm and flexible around that (perhaps a bigger day one day, shorter the next - they'll work with you).
  • Parking with no restrictions all around, and free - never an issue for any of the team getting parks.
  • Mentor experienced and emerging leaders within the team
  • Support the Manager in daily service operations
  • Support the Educational Leaders to embed MTOP V2.0 and quality practice across planning
  • You’ll be supported to play to your strengths - so if you love systems, use them. If you lead best from the floor, do that. They’re flexible, and they mean it.
  • Out of ratio, however still present to be supportive to the team and genuinely connect with the children, families and others
  • Take ownership of projects, with the flexibility to shape your responsibilities around your strengths
  • Pathways to further study (e.g. Diploma) if needed, shows you their genuine interest and support of their team - they want to invest in you, and your journey
  • You’ll have the space to make your mark and the backing of a great and steady team, many of whom are already leading in their own way.

It’s a rare mix of structure, support, and autonomy in one of Sydney’s most iconic suburbs.

About the Service:

The culture is big hearted, honest, and built on trust.
This Not for profit (NFP) OSHC service sits within school grounds, in a brilliant location - just minutes from the beach (amazing right?!).

The service caters to around 200 children, which sounds big, but you won’t be doing it alone. You’ll join a great team with a low turnover and with systems, space, and support to lead well and all working together to create a thriving, inclusive and quality environment.

What you’ll love about working here:

  • Caters to around 200 children
  • Located on school grounds.
  • Vibrant, collaborative culture with a large team (18–20 educators daily)
  • Dedicated space including 3 permanent rooms and access to all areas of the school (speaks to their positive relationship with the school itself)
  • No risk of tender any time soon, at least 5 years (and that's only if that ever comes up)
  • Expansive indoor and outdoor spaces
  • Dedicated office space with full access during school hours
  • Outside the box training ideas, such as bringing in a psychologist once a term for team training / support. As this is the same person, the team build up confidence in their behaviour engagement strategies and practices
  • Daily check ins and strong ties with the school principal
  • Overstaffed for quality - lead, mentor, and embed best practice
  • Has a long standing reputation for doing things right
  • Extensive leadership and collaborative leadership team, meaning many people to share the responsibilities and collaborate with within the service - you'll never be left carrying it all alone
  • Extremely well-resourced service and structured.

A service where you’re valued, supported, and given the space to thrive - both as a leader and a professional.

About You:
You’re confident, capable, and ready to step into something with more scope - but still want support around you. You understand the Approved Learning Framework (MTOP V2.0), thrive on structure, and know how to bring calm to a busy service.

You might already be a 2IC or senior educator, or perhaps you’ve led before and want to return to a role that values real leadership, not just admin, and work in a collaborative team.

You’ll bring:

  • Diploma in School Age Education and Care (or working towards), or other relevant qualification, or equivalent experience but a true passion for OSHC will be considered (not qualified, but want to? They are happy to pay and put you through your Diploma too)
  • Ideally 2 or more years experience working in OSHC, again – the right fit for the role is more important
  • Strong understanding of MTOP V2.0, maintaining / contributing to a QIP and all other areas of the NQF
  • You’re a detail oriented, confident OSHC leader who knows what good practice looks like - and how to bring it to life.
  • Confidence to lead a big team and mentor others, along with other leaders
  • Dependable approach - but still personable, easy to get along with and approachable
  • Willingness to stay in OSHC long term is ideal
  • Not looking for admin only, although a lot of admin hours are included with this role and it is out of ratio, this role still requires someone who genuinely wants to be hands on - to learn the nuances of the children, family, other educators and work collaboratively

Child Safeguarding:

Looking for an individual that will understand, adhere to, and promote The National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (the Child Safe Standards). In your position, you will help to take action to promote child wellbeing and prevent harm to children and young people.

Child safeguarding methods for this position, include, but are not limited to:

  • A NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain.
  • Thorough screening.
  • Reference checks.
  • A national criminal history check.

We’d love to hear what you bring and why this feels like the right step.
