About the role
As a Mental Health/Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Clinician, you will have a background in and be registered as a Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Nurse or Psychologist with the relevant accreditation body in your field.
You will work at a unique culturally led mental health hub, which we refer to as Strongbala Minds – Walk In Talk In Space. You will be working in a team of cultural leaders and peer workers backed by clinical support.
You will support people presenting to the Walk In Talk In space in mental health crisis or otherwise looking for support to improve their sense of mental health and well-being. Drawing on your disciplinary skills, you will assess people’s needs by listening deeply, providing high quality and culturally sensitive psychological therapies where requested and support people to connect with longer-term appropriate supports where applicable. You will play an active role in knowledge sharing and learning with and from your colleagues and creating a reciprocal learning environment within the team.
What you will bring to the role
Proven clinical experience in applying evidence-based psychological therapies including an understanding of theoretical concepts within mental health and/or AOD sciences and their application to mental health and/or AOD presentations.
Knowledge of the social determinants of health (environmental, economic and social inequalities) and their profound impact on the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Demonstrated experience of skilfully working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and Cultural and Linguistically Diverse Communities is preferred.
Experience of working as a member of a team with the ability to inspire and facilitate team commitment and cooperation.
Demonstrated, well developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills including with the ability to communicate sensitively in a cross-cultural environment.
Demonstrated ability to form and nurture partnerships with government and non-government mental health, AOD, emergency and community service providers.
A high level of personal resilience, psychological flexibility, and proficiency in utilizing support tools and strategies effectively to manage challenging situations.
Strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, manage and prioritise tasks.
Demonstrated computer skills, especially in the use of client information systems and record keeping.
Formal tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing or Occupational Therapy.
Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist, Nurse or Psychologist with current annual practicing certificate from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or full registration as a Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
