The opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Clinician to join the AKKF Team on a full-time ongoing basis. Reporting to the Head of Clinical Delivery, the Mental Health Clinician will provide clinical assessment, support, and ongoing management of young people within the Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation’s (‘AKKF’) programs and services.

Responsibilities include:
Clinical Support
Triaging eligibility, assessing risks and identifying support needs to onboard AKKF young people to our community database.
Supporting employees and volunteers to monitor and manage clinical issues (including challenging behaviours) using best practice and least restrictive principles.
Providing support to young people and their families where emotional/ behavioural/ social difficulties are identified and developing Wellness Intervention Plans (WIP’s), safety plans and care plans for YP as required, in liaison with relevant stakeholders.
Providing clinical guidance and support as Camp Clinician on AKKF programs, including the provision of brief behavioural supports and interventions, medication administration, and disclosure supports in keeping with AKKF policies and procedures, at mutually agreed periodic intervals that are based on organisational needs.
Risk and Compliance
Overseeing the coordination, escalation and documentation of risk issues and continuous improvement needs, including child protection, WHS, clinical, and program risks, using relevant clinical and quality management systems and processes.
Supporting to develop relevant clinical policies and procedures to maintain best practice compliance.
Reviewing and managing clinical data whilst maintaining the integrity of the YP and their right to confidentiality.
Education
Promoting, educating and role modelling person-centered, trauma informed and culturally safe clinical guidance, and supporting with mental health content and resource development.
Facilitating a learning environment by actively contributing to the professional development of yourself and others.
Identifying training needs and facilitating training for AKKF employees, volunteers, and any other identified team members.
Other duties
Keep up to date with best practice, technologies, products, and platforms to implement innovative ways to support best practice.
Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to provide excellence in clinical and overall service provisions.
Provide data and reports on our YP and families as required to the Head Clinical Delivery.
To be successful in this role you will have:
Bachelor’s in Nursing, Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or relevant Health Sciences Discipline, ideally with a core Mental Health component.
Current registration with your profession’s relevant regulatory authority e.g. AHPRA, ASW.
Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable populations within the mental health sector.
Good understanding of trauma informed and strengths-based engagement principles.
Demonstrated proficiency in triaging, care planning, risk evaluation, safety planning and referral pathways.
Desirable Criteria:
• Mental Health or Child/Youth post graduate qualification.
• Experience and understanding of working with families impacted by trauma or mental illness
You will be required to:
Maintain a current satisfactory check for working with young people, as per the relevant state/territory legislation.
Maintain a current and satisfactory CrimCheck.
Maintain eligibility to work in Australia.
