Airswift is proudly partnering with a leading Design & Construct (DNC) contractor known for delivering high-performance substations and transmission infrastructure projects across Australia. We are currently seeking a Primary Electrical Design Engineer to join their Adelaide-based team, contributing to the design and delivery of high-voltage substations supporting Australia’s clean energy transition.

About the Company

Our client is a dynamic engineering contractor with a strong track record in the successful execution of complex substation and transmission line projects. With deep expertise in end-to-end delivery—from concept design to commissioning—they support both utility and renewable energy clients across the national electricity market. The Adelaide office is expanding due to a growing pipeline of greenfield substation builds, grid connection projects, and augmentation works.

Key Responsibilities

Develop detailed primary electrical designs for high-voltage substations (66kV to 330kV), including layouts, general arrangements, grounding/earthing systems, and cable routes

Create technical drawings and documentation, including equipment layouts, clearances, and BOMs

Conduct design calculations for insulation coordination, fault levels, thermal ratings, and voltage drop

Collaborate with civil and structural teams to ensure seamless integration of designs into site development plans

Liaise with procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to support design clarification and implementation

Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and safety in design workshops

Ensure compliance with Australian standards and client-specific technical requirements

Provide technical support throughout project lifecycle, including occasional site inspections and interface meetings

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

Minimum 5–8 years of experience in primary substation design within utilities, DNC contractors, or EPCs

Strong understanding of high-voltage systems, including switchyard layout, busbar configurations, and equipment ratings

Proven knowledge of Australian standards (AS/NZS 2067, 7000, 3000)

Experience using design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and modelling software for clearances and earthing

Strong communication skills with a collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams

Previous exposure to construction environments and DNC project delivery is highly regarded
