About the role

ITP Sydney CBD & North Shore is seeking a self‐motivated and experienced Tax Consultant to join our Crows Nest office on a casual basis. You will be entrusted with preparing and finalising individual tax returns while delivering an exceptional client experience. You will work independently in a boutique serviced office environment with the support of the practice Director and Office Manager, as well as access to a shared reception team.

Key Responsibilities

Client Appointments & Tax Return Preparation

Conduct individual tax return appointments in person, by telephone, and via Microsoft Teams.

Prepare and review individual tax returns promptly, ensuring compliance with ATO requirements.

Tax Compliance Services

Stay current with changes in Australian tax legislation, including new rulings and ATO guidance, applying updates to client files.

Identify tax‐saving opportunities (e.g., deductions, offsets), and communicate strategies clearly to clients.

Client Relationship Management

Build rapport with a diverse client base primarily comprising individuals on the North Shore, Sydney CBD and surrounds.

Manage client enquiries—both technical and general—delivering timely, accurate, and professional advice.

Key Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or related field including a course/subject in Australian taxation

Minimum 3 years’ experience in public practice, with a strong track record in Australian individual tax return preparation and client service.

Demonstrated expertise in Australian income tax and GST legislation, compliance rules, and ATO lodgement protocols.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in an Australian-based tax software for preparing, reviewing, and lodging individual returns. Xero Tax ideal but not required.

Solid grasp of Microsoft Office 365 suite (Excel, Teams, Outlook) and cloud‐based document management.

Ability to interpret and apply ATO publications, private rulings and case law to real‐world tax scenarios.

Personal Attributes & Competencies

Highly organised, detail‐oriented, and able to manage a fluctuating caseload under tight deadlines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex tax matters in plain English.

Confident working autonomously with support of the Sydney-based Director and Office Manager

Client‐centric mindset: friendly, professional, and committed to delivering an outstanding client experience.

Flexibility to work Saturday mornings.
