Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental health challenges, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

About the Role:
The Coach and Peer Facilitator with Carers WA is a full-time, fixed-term contract ending June 2026. The position attracts a salary package of $82,400 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (including 17.5% leave loading on annual leave) and two wellness days per annum.
The role is responsible for organising, facilitating, and promoting time limited one-to-one Coaching and IPPS groups that are carer led and carer driven, in-line with Carer Gateway Carer Coaching and In-Person Peer Support (IPPS) guidelines. Carer Gateway is an Australian Government initiative for family carers in Australia, providing a mix of free online, telephone and in-person supports, services and advice. These services have been designed and tested by carers to help reduce stress and build resilience in the caring role.
- In-Person Peer Support (IPPS) program - provides an opportunity for carers to meet and share their experiences, learn from one another, and develop networks to help support and connect with others in the carer community. The IPPS is based on four service delivery modules of: Connection, Finding Community, Making Meaning of Now and Finding Purpose.
- Carer Coaching program - provides an opportunity for one-to-one coaching sessions with carers to empower them to take steps towards making positive changes and offering a reflective space to build resilience and capacity.
Flexibility is required to balance outreach work, group work as well as phone and digital support for carers in the community.
Carers WA promotes a workplace free of physical and psychological harm, however, acknowledges that some roles and inherent actions of our business mean there may be exposure to traumatic narratives. Typical stressors associated with this role may include handling difficult conversations such as conversations around suicidal ideation, and exposure to traumatic narratives. In these instances, and where possible, Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure.
Essential Selection Criteria:
- Experience with group facilitation skills and/or delivering information to groups of stakeholders.
- A relevant qualification (Cert IV Community Services, Diploma Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work) and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the Community Services sector.
- Knowledge of “Coaching” methodology and implementation.
- Experience in the NGO and/or healthcare sectors with direct supports to clients.
- Knowledge of community care and health systems and other programs relevant to carers.
- Demonstrated understanding around working with Aboriginal, CALD and LGBTIQA+ individuals and communities.
- High level of competency using computer software (Microsoft Office Suite, customised client databases, virtual communication modes).
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexibly including active participation in change management.
- Current C class Drivers Licence and National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
- While not essential, an understanding of carers issues and needs is desirable (e.g. lived experience).
