The Role

As a Senior PHP Developer at SMSGlobal, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our products and platform. You will be working to continuously uplift the codebase, architecture and quality of our current platform, and helping to deliver new features and functionality within our products.

Key Activities

Development: Working across our PHP based platform to deliver improvements, bugfixes, key upgrades as well as the delivery of new features and functionality.

Solution Design and Application Architecture: Working with other engineers and the infrastructure team to identify and implement opportunities to improve the application architecture, with a focus on simplicity and scalability.

Tooling Modernisation: Working to implement best practice software development methodologies as well as modernising and optimising our PHP developer tooling stack, helping to improve quality and supporting key DevOps principals and activities (think automated testing, CI/CD, observability, monitoring and alerting).

About you and your capabilities

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or Engineering

At least 3 to 5 years’ experience as a PHP Developer

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an aptitude to pick up and learn new skills & technologies

Extensive experience with a breadth of development languages & tools, including experience with the following

Strong PHP skills & knowledge of PHP frameworks and tools (Symfony, Composer, PHPUnit etc…)

Strong data modelling and SQL skills

Good understanding of Linux based computing environments

Familiarity with Git, CI/CD principals and practices, unit testing and other automated testing methodologies

JavaScript & JavaScript frameworks (e.g React or similar)

Development practices encompassing SOLID, DRY, TDD, BDD, and more

Excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to work with and influence fellow engineers

Ability to work autonomously, highly organised and detail oriented
