Why this role?

If you have a keen interest or background in community sports this may be just the role for you!

As one of our Senior Community Development Officers (SCDO), you will be pivotal in building the capacity of local communities and sports clubs to address drug and alcohol-related harm. With a strong focus on health promotion, you will be a key member of our team delivering our Good Sports and Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) programs. You will have the opportunity to proactively develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of sporting associations from footy clubs to cricket, netball and more, as well as with community groups across the NT.

As a confident public speaker, you will facilitate community forums and workshops with these groups, as well as represent the ADF at various external events and expositions.

Here’s a taste of what your daily activities will look like:

  • Deliver ADF programs in line with established policies, procedures and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant community and program stakeholders including community sporting clubs, leagues and associations, local councils and community health services.
  • Proactively and confidently engage with program stakeholders including online, in-person, phone and email.
  • Effectively plan and deliver activity such that program/project targets and key performance indicators are met.
  • Proactively identify and engage with community sports clubs that would benefit from the Good Sports program, including through cold calling and organised club visits.
  • Support LDATs to develop a Community Action Plan (CAP), outlining prevention activities to be delivered and evaluated.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is deeply passionate about health promotion and community engagement, with a commitment to what we do here at the ADF. You will be personable, interactive and enjoy meeting new people and fostering relationships. Your drive to make a difference, confidence building new stakeholder connections and ability to meet targets will be essential for this position.

Key experiences and skills that will set you up for success include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, health promotion or related field, or demonstrated experience in a community development role.
  • Awareness of community AOD issues, harm reduction and harm minimisation approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating health promotion, sports or similar community-based programs
  • Demonstrated experience and confidence facilitating group workshops and presentations.
  • An ability to self-motivate, plan effectively and meet Key Performance Indicators.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the capacity to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • A full driving license and access to own vehicle is a requirement for this role.

Travel across Northern Territory will also be a requirement of this role.
