Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW) represents NSW Catholic schools and their owners to the media, government and other education sector stakeholders. Catholic Schools in NSW educate approximately one in five NSW students.

CSNSW has the following appointments from the Australian and NSW governments:

Non-government representative body for NSW Catholic schools;

Approved system authority for funding for the NSW Catholic schools system;

School Registration Authority for all systemic Catholic schools; and

Catholic Block Grant Authority in New South Wales.

Under its Constitution, CSNSW acts as the overarching entity for the purposes of advancing education and religion in Catholic schools in NSW and ensures that Catholic schools meet their compliance requirements and can measure their activities in such a way as to maximise the education and faith outcomes of students. The company’s constitution is also backed by canonical mandates of delegation from each of the 11 diocesan bishops in New South Wales who are also the members of the Company.

Employees of CSNSW provide advice to Government and Catholic School Authorities on the full range of educational policy and compliance drivers impacting contemporary NSW schooling.

Primary Purpose of the role

The Senior Manager of CSSA Examinations plays a critical strategic and operational role in leading the successful delivery of the CSSA Trial HSC Examinations. The CSSA Examinations Division, under the auspices of CSNSW, has a strong reputation as the leading provider of Trial HSC Examinations and Marking Guidelines for 52 Trial HSC Examinations and Marking Guidelines and 48 HSC courses with more than 200,000 examinations distributed annually.

This is a full time, permanent position, working from the CSNSW office located in Sydney CBD.

Key responsibilities

The role has a wide variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

Establishing and executing the Project Schedule for the development, production and distribution of the CSSA Trial HSC Examinations, ensuring premium examination quality and alignment with NESA HSC Examination and syllabus requirements

Establishing and executing the Project Schedule for the development, production and distribution of the CSSA Trial HSC Examinations requiring Disability Provisions with the external provider, ensuring examination quality and alignment with NESA HSC Examination and syllabus requirements

Maintaining high levels of security regarding the production and distribution of the CSSA Trial HSC Examinations, including monitoring and managing the risk and conflict registers

Developing the budget for the CSSA Examinations Division

Developing the marketing strategy for the CSSA Examinations Division

Ensuring copyright compliance

Liaison with internal and external stakeholders including relevant CSNSW Reference Groups, CSSA Trial HSC Examinations Convenor and Committee members, Assessors, and the printers and distributors, the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) HSC Examinations Division and schools.

Appointing CSSA Convenors, Committee Members and Assessors

Supporting CSSA Convenors, Committee Members and Assessors with appropriate professional development and guidance

Organisation of payment for examination setting and teacher release and with CSNSW Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable

Preparing regular reports detailing progress of each year’s program including budget reports, reports on the extent to which the various targets within the program are being met and changes in the policy and/or educational environment impacting on HSC Examinations and CSSA Trial HSC Examinations

Communicating, for operational logistics purposes, directly with distributors and ensures that the CSSA Examinations Division is prompt in its communication to the printers and the distributors regarding any matters with CSSA Trial HSC Examinations or school orders

Responding to inquiries from schools, students, parents and the general public regarding conduct of the program and the provision of CSSA Trial HSC Examinations

Organising and facilitating the annual CSSA Convenor Orientation Day

Organising and facilitating the bi-annual CSSA Symposiums

Other duties as delegated by CSNSW

Key challenges

Leading and managing programs and project schedules within the context of the CSSA Examinations Division’s objectives

High volume workload and meeting competing deadlines

Essential Requirements

National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014

Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012

Empathy with and support for the mission, ethos and beliefs of Catholic schools and the communities they serve

Extensive knowledge of the NESA Higher School Certificate Curriculum and Assessment

Critical content knowledge and understanding of best-practice approaches to assessment design

Experience managing financial operations including budgets

High level interpersonal and communication skills

Excellent supervisory and team development skills, including demonstrated capacity in adult education, professional development/learning

Excellent group presentation, verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated experience managing high volume projects and meeting critical deadlines

Demonstrated experience in reviewing, evaluating and developing policies and procedures

Commitment to maintaining privacy, confidentiality and dealing respectfully with sensitive information

Experience applying computer technologies to improve and advance work practices

Commitment to providing high-quality customer service
