About the Position
Our Sustainability Team is at the heart of council’s efforts to protect and improve our environment. We work closely with the community, government, and other partners to design and deliver impactful programs that make a real difference.
We use data and evidence to lead our response to climate change, from cutting emissions and improving our environmental performance to building capability across council and the community.
As Senior Sustainability Advisor, you’ll take the lead on key strategies, projects and partnerships that drive action on climate change and sustainability. You’ll guide council’s sustainability performance and reporting, support our advocacy on critical environmental issues, and help embed sustainability into everything we do.
About You
You're purpose-driven and people-focused, with a sharp eye for practical ways to advance sustainability. A natural connector and influencer, you know how to bring people together to turn strategy into action and you’ve got the technical knowledge to back it up.
You’re persistent, pragmatic and patient, able to navigate complexity while keeping sight of the big picture. With experience developing strategies, policies and plans, you understand how to embed sustainability across diverse areas like:
- Climate change mitigation, risk and adaptation
- Water sensitive urban design
- Sustainable procurement, asset planning and urban development
- Energy and emissions management
- Biodiversity and urban forest planning
- Natural resource management
You are action-oriented, results-driven and passionate about creating lasting change.
Key Selection Criteria:
- A tertiary qualification in environmental planning, policy, science, management or related field.
- Proven knowledge and experience in current environmental sustainability practices.
- Demonstrated understanding of environment related legislation and strategic planning principles and experience in the development and analysis of strategic plans and policy.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects, programs and stakeholders to achieve agreed objectives.
- Understanding of the role local government can play in environmental sustainability.
