Are you passionate about sport, fitness and building inclusive communities?
Do you thrive in fast-paced, hands-on environments where you can plan, lead and inspire?
Why The Disability Trust?
The Disability Trust has delivered high-quality, professional care and support to people with disabilities and their families for over fifty years. Our team seeks to empower clients to live fulfilling lives by offering a range of tailored services and support systems.
We’re looking for an energetic and motivated Sports and Recreation Officer to join our Community Programs Team in Miranda, on a permanent part-time basis working 45.6 hours in a fortnight. This role plays a key role in shaping and delivering fun, inclusive sports programs across the Sydney region. Our Sport and Recreation Service provides a variety of activities (not just traditional sports) for children and adults living with disability across a variety of sport and recreational fields on weekdays, evenings and weekends.
About the Opportunity:
This position will be based out of our Miranda office, but will be expected to work across the Sydney region. In this hands-on role, you’ll do more than just plan programs—you’ll be out there delivering them too. As a Sports and Recreation Officer, you’ll use your sports or personal training background to organise, facilitate and develop a variety of exciting programs that promote physical activity, teamwork and personal growth.
This includes leading our flagship Score Sharks Program, as well as other activities such as Fitness 4 All, Basketball, and inclusive group-based sports. Your ability to connect with participants, adapt to different needs, and create engaging environments will be critical to your success.
You will also be responsible for:
- Leading the facilitation and hands-on delivery of sport and recreation programs.
- Planning and coordinating weekly and term-based activities tailored to participant goals.
- Building strong relationships with participants, families, and community partners.
- Supporting the growth and development of new programs in the region.
- Being a driving force in making inclusive sport accessible and enjoyable.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
- A background in sport, fitness, coaching or personal training (essential).
- Strong facilitation and leadership skills—comfortable running group sessions.
- A passion for inclusive sport and the ability to motivate people of all abilities.
- Strong planning, communication and organisational skills.
- Experience working with people with disability (highly desirable but not essential).
How will my contributions be recognised and rewarded?
We value the incredible work that our people do by providing a range of benefits including:
- The base salary for this role is between $73,000 and $79,000 per annum (pro-rata part time and based upon relevant experience and qualifications) plus superannuation.
- Not-for-profit salary packaging options (around $15k in tax free earning potential).
- 5 weeks of annual leave per annum.
- Option for Flexible Public Holiday leave for days of cultural or religious significance
- An extensive paid learning and development offering
- Free access to an Employee Assistance Program for you and your family.
Ready to join us?
If you're ready to take the next step in your career, please submit a brief expression of interest addressing your skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role. For a confidential discussion about this opportunity, please contact our Community Programs Manager Mary Ann Tohme on [email protected].
Applications close 5pm Thursday 5 June 2025, please note applicants may be contacted on a rolling basis.
