Ever asked yourself 'how do I get into Government Relations'? Well, often it is about who you know, but every now and then one of these rare opportunities comes to market and makes all your dreams come true. Consider us your Dream Makers. If you are all over the parliamentary process, know exactly how to coordinate and prepare QoN and Senate Estimate briefs, and have an exceptional ability to influence, then this might be your dream opportunity!

We have a permanent opportunity for an experienced people leader to join a small, high-performing team responsible for navigating a large non-Commonwealth employer through the complexity of governmental processes, the political landscape, and key policies impacting them now and into the future.

The key function of this team is to lead engagement with all levels of government, develop strategies to advocate for the organisation's best interests and deliver a parliamentary strategy that will enable this important national organisation to achieve its' mission and strategic priorities. The environment is fast-paced, dynamic and demanding; but this doesn't daunt you, instead it inspires you. You love that there are processes to rebuild and new systems to be created!

So, what will be your key focus areas and deliverables?

While the work of the team is shared amongst all, your initial focus will be on the design, delivery, and capability uplift of the organisational ability to effectively respond to the demands of Parliamentary processes and briefings. You will need to draw upon your expertise in the coordination and preparation of Senate Briefs , Questions on Notice and executive briefings to build a robust process, in consultation with the full breadth of internal stakeholders, that is both proactive and strategic.

With the foundations developed to enable effective reporting, you will then turn your energy to the development of an engagement strategy with committee members. As part of a small team, your contribution will focus on the re-establishment of relationships with MP's and their Offices.

Now, we did say this would be demanding, the above deliverables will be something you manage concurrently with the daily requirements of advocating with external stakeholders and showcasing the organisational outcomes on both a national and international stage, developing capability internally to meet these goals, and maintaining a well-informed understanding of the political and policy landscape to help drive an organisational shift from reactive to proactive.

What do you need to be successful in this position?

It goes without saying that you have exceptional political and policy acumen across all levels of government, this is what gives you the confidence to effectively navigate complex governmental processes and develop the capability in others to do the same.

You are an influential communicator, you come at it without ego. Diplomacy is your super-power, and you excel in developing relationships with a diverse range of individuals and stakeholder groups.

Finally, you are energetic, innovative, and very resilient and able to effectively operate in the background without taking the credit for success. Very occasionally, you are even happy to take the credit for failures that aren't yours - you are a real team player and mature leader.

What's in it for you?

This is the best part, a true professional match. It is the ultimate career opportunity for you to learn from an exceptional leader in the Head of Government Relations, a seasoned professional who leads with a calm confidence. Your success in the re-establishment of relationships and process will allow you to establish yourself as a true government relations specialist.

You will get to work with some of the most intelligent and diverse executives in the country. This is an environment that is inspiring and innovative, no two days will be the same.

Lastly, there are exceptional employment conditions that include attractive superannuation, 35-hour work week and commitment to professional development. You can expect $130,000 - $140,000 as a base annual salary.

If you think this could be a great fit for you then please reach out today for a confidential chat and a full position description. You will need to apply with your CV and a statement of claims addressing the criteria in the position description.
