We’re seeking a Senior Advisor – Investigations & Improvements to lead complex investigations, ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, and drive quality and practice improvements across the organisation.

About the Role

As the Senior Advisor – Investigations & Improvements, you will:

  • Lead complex investigations and case reviews in accordance with the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) Client Incident Management System (CIMS) and the Commission for Children and Young People (CCYP) Reportable Conduct Scheme.
  • Plan, conduct, and supervise investigations and interviews using trauma-informed, child-centered, and procedurally fair approaches.
  • Prepare high-quality, evidence-based reports with clear findings and actionable recommendations for Meli’s Executive and Board.
  • Provide expert consultancy and support to staff undertaking investigations, case reviews, and incident responses, ensuring best practice standards are upheld.
  • Collaborate with internal teams—including the Safeguarding Advisor, Quality Team, and People & Capability Team—and external regulatory bodies to enhance incident management, feedback systems, and organisational learning.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, frameworks, and quality systems that support child safety, risk management, and continuous improvement.
  • Support governance committees and supervise key roles within the Quality team, fostering a culture of accountability and responsiveness.

This role is instrumental in strengthening Meli’s safeguarding culture, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations, and driving meaningful improvements across the organisation.

What We're Looking For

We value individuals who bring dedication, empathy, and expertise to their roles. To succeed in this position, you will have:

  • A recognised social work degree or similar welfare or behaviour related qualification which preferably includes a focus on child development, human behaviour, family/trauma informed and case work practice.
  • Relevant qualification in legal studies, investigations (Certificate IV or Diploma in Government Investigations) or demonstrated experience in undertaking complex investigations, with experience in the interviewing of alleged victims and witnesses (with a particular focus on vulnerable individuals including children and young people of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or culturally diverse backgrounds, and children and young people with a disability)
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to assess complex information, identify practice and technical issues arising from investigations, and work with a range of internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement recommendations.
  • Knowledge and practical application of legislation, practices and procedures, including a detailed understanding of the DFFH Client Incident Management Policy and CCYP Reportable Conduct Scheme and related investigation frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and supervising staff.
