We are presently seeking an experienced and proactive Legal Counsel to work with our Senior Legal Counsel and the wider business on a range of legal matters relating to Kia Australia. This role will involve doing legal work across a wide variety of different areas (including contract reviews and negotiations, informal disputes and litigation, consumer law issues, intellectual property matters, employment issues, privacy matters and much more), and reporting on those matters to senior management. You will be expected to act in the best interests of the company, in an ethical, professional, timely and cost-effective manner.

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel and Chief Executive Officer, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice to mitigate business risks for Kia Australia.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provide timely advice to internal departments, including department heads and senior managers, on legal and regulatory compliance requirements. As mentioned above, this role will involve doing legal work across a wide variety of different areas (including contract reviews and negotiations, informal disputes and litigation, consumer law issues, intellectual property matters, employment issues, privacy matters and much more).

Liaise and manage communications with internal and external stakeholders in relation to Kia Australia’s legal matters.

Provide weekly legal updates and recommendations to senior management, including our Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer.

Review agreements, contracts and other legal documentation.

Ensure a document register is in place for all Kia Australia contracts.

Renew all compulsory insurances (e.g. Public Liability, Motor Vehicle, Travel etc) in a timely manner.

Research and advise on material changes to the law, including amendments to key pieces of legislation and any significant court judgments that may have implications for Kia Australia.

Monitor and manage the annual legal budget in a cost-effective way.

Identify and minimise the legal risks and exposures of the company.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

A Legal Practising Certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW.

Around 3 years’ PQE, ideally with commercial experience (either in private practice or an inhouse legal role).

Strong knowledge of Federal and Supreme Court rules, class actions procedures and general courtroom practices.

Expertise and experience in contract review, consumer law issues and privacy compliance.

Excellent organisational, legal research, and problem-solving skills.

Exceptional written and oral communication abilities.

A proven ability to work independently and manage multiple matters simultaneously.

A demonstrated track record of achieving positive outcomes in legal matters.

Automotive industry experience highly ideal.
