The Role

The Cyber Security Director, reporting to ADG Trust & Assurance, will work across division and branch EL2 stakeholders to align, drive and coordinate branch level strategic initiatives and communications.

The Director will support the branch head in strategic planning, communication and execution of multi-year initiatives across classified communication security, high assurance evaluation and top secret assessment and authorisation.

The Director will need to work closely with division Director and Technical Director stakeholders to prioritise and enable strategic outcomes. This includes developing business cases, strategic reporting, and engaging with ASD Executive Governance processes.

The Director supports the branch head in financial oversight of the branch portfolio reporting and budgeting.

They will also be a common point of branch leadership outside of Canberra, and support the national workforce teams as required.

About the Team

ASD’s Trust & Assurance Branch within Cyber Security Division, ACSC Group, oversees and delivers security assurance functions for Australia’s most classified Government systems.

The Branch is the strategic centre for one of the oldest Information Security Protect missions, and is the authority on Communication Security for classified communications at SECRET at above.

Our work is comprised of classified security assurance, protect oriented services and technical advice, driven by threat intelligence, framed by the Australian Protective Security Policy Framework and Information Security Manual. This Branch also develops and sustains unique ICT infrastructure critical to the delivery of the ASD mission.

This is a geographically distributed, multi-disciplinary branch that engages across the intelligence community, government and with industry partners to deliver on its Protect mission objectives. The branch integrates closely with stakeholders across the Cyber Security Resilience mission to deliver whole of government cyber security outcomes.

While prior work experience in cyber security is not essential, an understanding of security oversight and governance, enterprise architecture, ICT system and security architecture will help you succeed in this role. Specialised on-the-job training will be provided to successful candidates to accelerate your cyber security journey.

The ideal candidate will be able to quickly and effectively synthesise strategic direction into initiatives. They will also be able to communicate and report through briefs, presentations, placemats, as well as engage with portfolio level governance and reporting.

The candidate is an experienced writer and verbal communicator, and also has experience:

  • Overseeing project delivery, identifying and managing risk.
  • Providing and coordinating timely communications and briefing materials to the branch or division head.
  • Reporting at a portfolio level.
  • Engaging with senior leadership and stakeholders across a broad set of Government stakeholders with confidence.
  • Supporting a diverse workforce of skills, gender, and geographic location.
  • Adapting quickly to emerging priorities.
  • Thinking strategically, recognising, planning and adapting to a changing environment.
  • Working with considerable autonomy alongside like-minded experts.
  • Managing sensitive information in accordance with applicable policy and security requirements.
