About the Role
An opportunity has become available for an experienced registered Mental Health Nurse to co-ordinate the Clozapine programme, providing efficient, evidence based and responsive mental health care to consumers who attend the Clozapine Service and community GPs, psychiatrist and pharmacies. The part time position will cover 5 days per week, Monday to Friday.
The Clozapine Coordinator utilises well developed interpersonal skills and clinical skills to work in collaboration with GMHWS Leadership team, clinical teams, Learning and Development and ASO teams, Private Psychiatrists and General Practitioners to ensure that people who are prescribed clozapine receive regular, comprehensive physical health assessment and metabolic monitoring in accordance with the Clopine Central TM Protocol, and are linked with primary health care which is safe and effective, places the person and their recovery at the centre of care and makes a positive difference in their life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide monitoring of the Clopine program - including the Clopine Shared Care component - and ensure that all clinical monitoring is carried out within the time frames set out in the Clopine Central TM Protocol
- Provide support to GMHWS medical staff, external GPs and Community Pharmacists who prescribe Clozapine to consumers in the Shared Care Program
- Support internal and external service providers to access information and training to ensure that consumers prescribed Clozapine have their physical needs met
- Work in conjunction with the GMHWS Learning and Development Team to ensure that all GMHWS staff have access to targeted education regarding the commencement and monitoring of Clozapine.
- Adhere to nursing registration standards and Grampians Health Policies and Protocols
Skills and experience
- Must have AHPRA (Nurses, Occupational Therapists & Psychologists) or eligibility for the AASW for Social Workers
- Recent clinical experience in a range of mental health settings, including bed based units and community mental health.
- Well-developed mental health assessment skills
- Good knowledge of the Mental Health Wellbeing Act and other relevant legislation
- Good knowledge of the recovery model and how this informs engagement with consumers
- Highly developed knowledge of Clozapine and Clopine management protocols.
- Good knowledge and understanding of the MHWA 2022 and other relevant legislation, policies and strategic directions of Public Mental Health Services
