Location: Kensington, Western Australia
The Office of Information Management (OIM) is responsible for information management and related information and communication technology (IT) to enable the Department to achieve its strategic, tactical and operational goals through the right IT governance and correct information and technology controls.
We are currently seeking to establish a pool of suitable applicants in the role of Technical Specialist (Radio Communication).
We currently have various opportunities with the possibility of full-time employment.
Under general direction, the Technical Specialist (Radio Communication):
- Contributes to the effective service delivery of the department’s regional/remote radio communication network that incorporates the department’s frontline terrestrial, aerial and marine operations.
- Undertakes routine and complex installation and maintenance for the department’s radio communication network.
- Contributes to continuous improvement for radio communication services used by the department.
- Monitors performance of the department’s radio communication networks, systems and equipment, identifies complex problems and initiates action to resolve them.
The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in all types of radio communication systems (including UHF and VHF).
- Experience in the use of and diagnosis and repair of faults using electronic test equipment.
- Experience with UHF and VHF radio communication systems, direct current and solar hybrid power related systems.
- Trade or tertiary qualification in Cert III/Iv in radio communications or minimum of 5 years equivalent industrial working experience.
- A current "C" class driver's licence for both manual and automatic vehicles valid within the State of Western Australia.
- Ongoing willingness and ability to undertake work assignments and ad-hoc travel (via light/heavy vehicles and fixed/rotary wing aircraft) to metropolitan and regional sites in Western Australia, camp and work for both short-term and extended periods.
- Ongoing willingness and ability to participate in afterhours roster support for the department’s radio operations.
- Demonstrated Level 4 capabilities as per the Public Sector Commission’s WA Public Sector Capability Framework: shape and manage strategy; achieve results; build productive relationships; exemplifies personal integrity and self-awareness; and communicate and influence effectively.
- Demonstrated understanding of occupational safety, health and equity, and diversity principles and practices.
- ACMA Open Cablers Registration with Structured, Coax and Optical Fibre endorsements (DESIRABLE).
- High Risk Work Licence in elevating work platform, forklift operation or dogging and rigging work (DESIRABLE).
- Advanced First Aid/Resuscitation certification (DESIRABLE).
- Experience working in a diverse, varied and geographically distributed corporate environment (DESIRABLE).
- Ongoing willingness and ability to participate in fire management activities that contribute to bushfire suppression and prescribed burning operations commensurate with capability, capacity, training and level of experience (DESIRABLE).
