About the Role

In accordance with legal and statutory requirements, assist the Commissioner for Children and Young People by contributing to the provision of high-level strategic advice on a broad range of issues pertaining to the promotion and protection of the rights of children and young people in Tasmania. The incumbent will support the Commissioner to engage with a range of stakeholders, including government, the community sector and children and young people.

Period of Appointment

ASAP until 30 June 2028

Applicants should be aware that for twelve (12) months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill any subsequent full-time or part-time vacancies in accordance with Employment Direction 1.

Hours per fortnight

36.75 hours per fortnight

Essential Requirements

  • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
  • The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1 Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) crimes of violence
b) sex related offences
c) serious drug offences
d) crimes involving dishonesty
e) serious traffic offences

2 Identification check
3 Disciplinary actions in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in law, child welfare, psychology, education or similar will be regarded highly.
