Role Context:

The Lighthouse Project is the name of our pilot program to build better communication at Langford. We want to make sure participants, families, support workers and support networks are all on the same page. This is a new role at Langford and exists to support our Support Workers and interface between management, support staff, participants and stakeholders. This role may become permanent dependent on success of the Lighthouse Project pilot program.

Position Summary:

The Therapeutic Lead works within the Service Delivery team responsible for the development and implementation of the Therapeutic plans, Care Plans and Complex Care or Support Plans for Children and Young People receiving supports with the Langford Therapeutic Care Program.
The position will take a lead in supervising and mentoring direct support teams to deliver therapeutic and holistic supports within overarching plans. They will work in collaboration with the Team Coordinator and under the direction of the Manager, CYS to lead and develop support teams and have oversight of ongoing goal development and support delivery for each child or young person.

Position Responsibilities:

Reporting into the Manager CYS you will be responsible for:

Maintaining a Duty of Care

Act as a WHS representative, ensuring hazards and incidents are recorded and reported, particularly reportable incidents and behaviours of risk from participants towards staff.

Ensure your personal work practices do not place children, young people, team members, or others at risk of harm, abuse, neglect or exploitation.

Assist with the maintenance of relevant aids and mobility equipment.

Adhere to documented and approved Therapeutic Care Plans and supervise team members to ensure alignment with these plans.

Monitor changes in participant needs or general health and report them to the Manager, CYS.

Understand and follow incident reporting processes for hazards, injuries and reportable incidents.

Complete all mandatory training and safeguarding requirements.

Conduct medication audits.

Communicating Effectively

Liaise with families, care teams, and other services and programs.

Provide after-hours on-call support as per the roster.

Partner with all internal business units to develop organisational understanding.

Arrange regular staff meetings and encourage team member input into the agenda.

Building relationships and trust

Work with the participant and important people in their life

Listen and hear the participant’s needs and wants

Prioritise the participant’s choice unless others have decision-making authority in some complex situations

Working collaboratively

Shift planning and general support to Support Workers, in consultation with the Manager, CYS

Coordination of participant healthcare planning and appointments

Allocate responsibilities to deliver supports within Therapeutic Care Plans

Supervision of team members in working within Children and Young People’s Therapeutic Care Plans, which you will role model with your personal work practices

Practice within the Langford CYS Framework

Provision of leadership and mentoring to the Child and Youth Service Support Worker Team within the Langford CYS framework, including but not limited to:

Early childhood trauma and the adverse impacts on brain development, emotional regulation, and attachment

Child Safety Service Wellbeing Framework

Rights of Children and Young People

Respect for culture and diversity

Conflict resolution that is effective, fair and respectful

Child and Young People-centred practice

Organisational skills

Professional and ethical practice

Safeguarding

What you will bring to the position

To assist people to have choice and control of their lives, your success in this role will depend on:

• A Diploma in Disability or similar qualification

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children and young people in a therapeutic setting.

• Strong knowledge and understanding of the Child and youth Safe Organisations Framework and the

Tasmanian Out of Home Care Standards.

• Knowledge, understanding and experience of therapeutic models of support for children and young people

who have experienced trauma.

• Experience leading, coaching and supervising teams including conflict resolution

• Strong communication, interpersonal skills and report writing skills

• The ability to build and maintain relationships and work in a collaborative way with people

• The ability to remain calm, problem solve and demonstrate good judgment and decision making in a range of

complex situations

• Resilience, flexibility and adaptable to changing priorities

• Highly organised and systematic follow up



Essential requirements

Provide and maintain:

• Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) with NDIS endorsement (if you do not have the NDIS

endorsement before joining Langford you can apply for it as soon as you start work with us)

• National Police Check (if less than six months old)

• NDIS Quality, Safety & You - Worker Orientation Module

• Current unrestricted drivers’ license

• A current Level 2 Senior First Aid Certificate

• A current Administration of Medication Certificate

Delegated authority

The Therapeutic Lead works under general direction from the Manager CYS and has a degree of delegated authority and autonomy to coordinate services, establish and monitor priorities and workflow to achieve service outcomes, and supervise team performance. They are expected to exercise professional judgment and Initiative and make sound decisions where work practices and direction are not clearly defined or established.

Direct reports

The position supports the Direct Support teams and Champions in the Langford Therapeutic Care Team.

Selection criteria

1. Experience developing and documenting processes and procedures for operations, programs, and service delivery

2. Experience presenting information in a clear and logical sequence, demonstrating an understanding of the needs of the end user
