Stores / Inventory Manager - Lindeman Island

About the Opportunity:

An exciting and unique opportunity exists for a highly organised and proactive Stores / Inventory Manager to live and work on the beautiful Lindeman Island, Queensland. This live-in role offers a rare chance to combine your expertise in supply chain management with an idyllic island lifestyle, playing a crucial role in the efficient operation of our island facilities.

Position Title: Stores/Inventory Manager

Location: Lindeman Island, Whitsunday Islands, Queensland, Australia

Reporting To: Construction Manager/Chief Engineer

Probation Period: 6 Months

Salary: $90K + Superannuation

Role Overview:

We are seeking a meticulous and experienced professional to oversee all aspects of our island's inventory and stores operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the receipt, storage, issuance, and tracking of a diverse range of goods, from building materials and plant spare parts to hospitality supplies and consumables. Due to the remote nature of the location, exceptional planning, problem-solving skills, and a strong eye for detail are paramount to ensuring the island has what it needs, when it needs it.

Key Responsibilities:

Inventory Management: Implement and maintain robust inventory control systems to accurately track stock levels for all departments (e.g., maintenance, hospitality, marine, general operations). This includes managing minimum and maximum stock levels, reorder points, and lead times.

Receiving & Dispatch: Coordinate the efficient receipt of all incoming goods, including offloading from barges/boats, inspecting for damage, verifying against purchase orders, and accurately recording deliveries. Manage the dispatch of goods as required.

Storage & Organisation: Optimise the layout and organisation of all storage areas and warehouses to ensure efficient use of space, easy accessibility, and proper storage conditions for various materials. Implement and maintain clear labelling systems.

Stock Control & Audits: Conduct regular stocktakes and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy. Investigate and reconcile discrepancies, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

Procurement Support: Collaborate closely with the management team and various departments to understand their material requirements, assist with creating purchase requisitions, and provide data for purchasing decisions.

Dangerous Goods Management: Ensure the safe and compliant storage and handling of all dangerous goods and hazardous substances in accordance with Australian Standards and WHS regulations.

Asset Tracking: Assist with tracking of island assets, including tools and equipment, ensuring their proper return and maintenance.

Waste Management Support: Assist in the coordination of waste management processes and logistics for removal from the island.

Reporting: Generate regular inventory reports, highlighting stock levels, consumption rates, discrepancies, and any potential supply chain issues.

Supplier Liaison: Maintain effective communication with suppliers regarding deliveries, discrepancies, and returns, always fostering positive relationships.

Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and tidy stores environment. Ensure all operations comply with relevant Australian Standards and regulations.

Process Improvement: Continuously review and improve stores and inventory processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and minimise costs.

Qualifications & Experience:

Proven Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a similar stores, inventory, or warehousing management role, ideally within a diverse operational environment.

Inventory Systems: Demonstrated experience with inventory management software or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

Receiving & Dispatch: Solid experience in the efficient receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods, including experience with various types of freight.

Stock Control: Expertise in conducting accurate stocktakes, cycle counts, and reconciliation processes.

Forklift Licence: Current and valid Australian Forklift Licence (LF class) is highly desirable, or willingness to obtain.

Driver's Licence: Current and valid Australian Driver's Licence.

Dangerous Goods Knowledge: Understanding of dangerous goods storage and handling regulations.

Skills & Attributes:

Highly Organised: Exceptional organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.

Systematic Thinker: Ability to develop and implement logical and efficient processes.

Proactive & Resourceful: Capable of anticipating needs, identifying potential issues, and finding practical solutions in a remote setting.

Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address inventory discrepancies and logistical challenges.

Adaptable: Flexible and willing to assist across various island operations when required, demonstrating a strong team spirit.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for liaising with suppliers, management, and island staff.

Physical Fitness: Physically capable of performing duties that may involve manual handling, lifting, and working in a dynamic environment.

Computer Literate: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and comfortable with inventory management software.

Safety Conscious: A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

Remote Living: A positive and resilient attitude towards living and working in a remote island community.

Benefits:

Live-in accommodation provided on Lindeman Island.

Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

Opportunity to play a vital role in a unique island operation.

Be an integral part of a close-knit island team and community.
