About This Opportunity

Join a world-class team at one of the top 50 universities globally, where your passion for cutting-edge research in bioinformatics, microbiome and human disease can truly shine! This is an opportunity for a bioinformatics-focused Postdoctoral Research Fellow to dive deep into the environmental drivers of type 1 diabetes, advance their expertise, and earn national recognition in the field.

Working within the Research Group of Professor Emma Hamilton-Williams, you'll focus on groundbreaking research into the early-life origins of type 1 diabetes, in particular linked to the microbiome, metabolites and diet. This will include working with large datasets (e.g. proteomics, metabolomics and metagenomics) collected from a pregnancy-birth cohort of children at-risk of type 1 diabetes, as well as from clinical trials targeting the gut microbiome.

In this role, you'll take on leadership, driving impactful service and engagement activities while managing research projects efficiently. If you're eager to take your career to the next level and be part of a transformative journey in diabetes research, this role offers an exciting and unique opportunity!

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Energetically drive research projects, seek and support applications for competitive research funding, publish in reputable journals and utilise best practice research methodologies.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students and provide performance feedback and training to research support staff and supervisees.
  • Citizenship and Service: Begin to develop partnerships, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in bioinformatics, statistics, data science, microbiology, nutrition science or immunology.
  • An emerging profile in research in microbiome, immunological disease, metabolomics, proteomics or developmental origins of human disease.
  • Demonstrable experience and expertise in bioinformatics, statistics and analysis of large datasets, for example metagenomics, proteomics or metabolomics. Experience using 'R' and high-performance computing preferred.
  • Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining research funding.
  • Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.

Please note, you must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Employer-sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
