An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Community Mental Health Clinician (Grade 2 Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Psychologist or Grade 3 registered Psychiatric Nurse) to join the Merri-bek Community Teams within Northern Health's Mental Health Division. We are located centrally in Coburg - close to Public Transport and parking options.

About Mental Health Division:

Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern. Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles. We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.

About the Role:

The Community teams are large, supportive and dynamic teams made up of staff that are truly passionate and motivated in supporting consumers and their families/carers.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government areas of Moreland and Hume.

In this role you will be involved in working in conjunction with other members of the treating team to support a designated group of consumers requiring medium to long term specialist mental health support through assessment, delivering targeted mental health interventions and co-ordinating care.

The Enhanced Support Function utilises a team based assertive outreach approach to each consumer's clinical care with capped caseloads.

You will work alongside a small number of clinicians to provide high level of clinical support to consumers of the Community Team.

This involves being the key contact for a small caseload of complex consumers as well as consumers with intensive recovery needs.

The Enhanced Support Function operates within and alongside the Medium-Long term and Acute Functions of the Integrated Community Team.

With support of the Acute function of the team you will provide acute assessment and intervention for these designated consumers when needed.

This role is predominately a business hours but there is the option of working a small number of shifts with the acute function of the team. This role is a full time ongoing position.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • The appropriate qualifications as a Grade 2 Psychologist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Grade 3 Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
  • Previous experience working in a Community Mental Health team is desirable
  • Passion about contributing positively to the lives of consumers with mental illness and their families
  • Experience in the provision of Psychiatric assessment and intervention for consumers with a mental illness - preferably in a public mental health setting but this is not essential
  • Ability to provide general and discipline specific mental health assessment and intervention
  • Ability to work as part of a team but also able to work autonomously
