The Data Cabler/Security Technician is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of data cabling and security systems. This entry-level position offers an opportunity to learn and develop skills in the field of telecommunications and security technology. Under the guidance of experienced technicians, the apprentice will gain hands-on experience while contributing to the successful implementation of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Cabling Installation:
- Installation of data cables, including Ethernet, fiber optic, and coaxial cables.
- Pull, route, terminate, and test cables to ensure proper connectivity.
- Follow industry standards and specifications for cable installation.
Security System Installation:
- Installation of security systems, such as surveillance cameras, access control systems, intrusion detection systems, and alarm systems.
- Mount devices, run wiring, and assist in system configuration.
- Conduct tests to verify the functionality of installed systems.
Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform regular maintenance tasks on data cabling and security systems.
- Inspect cables to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues and replace faulty components as needed.
- Assist in upgrading systems to meet evolving requirements.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate documentation of installation, repair, and maintenance activities.
- Record cable layouts, system configurations, and other relevant information.
- Generate reports for management and customers to provide project updates.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with a team of technicians, network engineers, electricians, and security system designers.
- Work together to ensure seamless integration and functionality of data cabling and security systems.
- Communicate effectively to provide and receive instructions and updates.
Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure work environment.
- Follow proper procedures for handling and installing cables.
- Utilize personal protective equipment as required.
Learning and Development:
- Actively participate in training programs to develop technical skills and knowledge.
- Learn from experienced technicians and seek guidance when needed.
- Stay updated with industry advancements and emerging technologies.
What we're looking for:
- 1-3 years' experience as a security/ICT technician, with a strong background in maintaining and repairing security systems
- Qualifications in electrical, electronics or security systems, such as a Certificate III in Security Operations or equivalent
- Working knowledge of CCTV, access control, intruder alarm and other security technologies
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong communication skills to liaise with clients and team members
- A focus on safety and compliance with relevant standards and regulations
- A driver's license and willingness to travel to client sites as required
