About the role
This full-time position with the Central Coast Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service Inc. will see you working as an Aboriginal Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Worker, providing critical support and advocacy to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims/survivors of domestic and family violence on the Central Coast, NSW area.
What you'll be doing
Providing culturally appropriate support, information and referrals to victims/survivors of domestic and family violence
Advocating on behalf of clients with police, the courts, legal services and other relevant agencies.
Provide safety planning and conduct threat assessments to mitigate risk of harm.
Assisting clients to access safe accommodation, financial support, counselling and other essential services
Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with local Aboriginal service providers and community groups
Contributing to policy and procedural development to improve service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
What we're looking for
Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, preferably in the domestic violence or community services sector
Comprehensive understanding of the unique cultural, social and economic factors impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims/survivors of domestic and family violence
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with clients from diverse backgrounds
Strong advocacy and negotiation skills, and the capacity to navigate complex legal and social service systems
Relevant qualifications and or experience in social work, psychology, community services or a related field
Current driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle with comprehensible insurance.

Essential Criteria -
Relevant qualifications and/or experience in community services or social work
Demonstrated understanding of the gendered nature of Domestic & Family Violence its complexities and consequences
Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support
Demonstrated understanding of the particular needs of and challenges faced by: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, Clients from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds, Elderly and People with a Disability.
Knowledge of the criminal justice response to domestic and family violence including Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders.
Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution
Ability to work with the local Aboriginal community to promote awareness of domestic and family violence and CCDVCAS services
Proficient information technology and data entry skills, and the ability to use word processing software including Outlook, Word, Excel, databases, and master online platforms easily.
Excellent organisational and administrative skills to undertake all your own client notes, data entry, report writing and administrative duties for your role.
Must have current driver’s license and car with full comprehensive insurance.

The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check and a National Police Record Check.
