Sera's Women's Shelter is seeking a passionate and experienced Domestic Violence Specialist to support women and children escaping violence by providing appropriate resources and support to empower women to gain independent and safe accommodation. You will be able to recognise the effects of domestic violence on women and children, provide culturally appropriate support, and enable the woman to meet her needs for safety and long-term goal setting.
It is a requirement that this position is filled by a woman, as under s113 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, sex is a genuine occupational requirement
About the role
The position is a part-time role, offering 32 hours per week. The work hours for this role will be scheduled between Monday and Friday.
The role includes a combination of on-site duties and on-call responsibilities as part of a rotating roster. Reporting to the Team Leader, you will work across Sera’s programs to provide support to victim survivors escaping domestic violence by providing trauma-informed, case co-ordination and crisis management skills.
Required qualifications and experience
Diploma in social work, psychology, or relevant human services discipline or working towards (highly desirable)
2 years experience in the domestic and family violence sector, or similar field
Role requirements
Current drivers licence
Positive Notice of a Working with Children Check (Blue card) – or ability to obtain prior to commencement
Required skills and knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the effects of domestic violence on women and children from a feminist perspective
Understanding of relevant legislation including Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012, Child Protection Act 1999 and DFV Information Sharing Guidelines
Demonstrated crisis intervention, case management, and trauma-informed practice skills
Demonstrated ability to be highly organised, prioritise tasks, and manage competing demands with a flexible and resourceful approach
Experience in working with women from Indigenous and other cultural backgrounds
Ability to work both independently and co-operatively within a team environment
Sound knowledge, or ability to acquire knowledge of, local community organisations and demonstrated networking skills
Excellent written/oral communication skills and competency with technology systems
About the offer
Hourly rate of $43.08 to $46.35 base rate
