About the role

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager - IT Projects to lead and deliver project financial management and services to IT projects. Reporting to Head of IT PMO within IT Delivery, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to ensure success.

This is a newly created role and provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the University's strategic priorities by managing enhanced operational efficiency, improved stakeholder experience, and delivery of measurable outcomes.

You will lead a high performing team to successfully deliver the necessary commercial support to various IT projects, solving complex situations in collaboration with IT PMO colleagues and external suppliers, championing a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of financial planning, management and reporting services for IT Delivery, promoting successful project delivery in line with agreed budgets.
  • Partner with Program/Project Managers and project teams to develop and critically evaluate project budgets, forecasts and financial planning, including financial modelling and benefits management.
  • Utilise advanced business commercial acumen in the recommendation/presentation of insights to provide expert financial guidance to IT Delivery and the program/project teams.
  • Review, identify and evaluate financial risks and opportunities and make recommendations for informed decision making.
  • Monitor and track project financial progress and deliverables and prepare accurate and high-quality reporting and analyses throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring reporting is in line with the University's standards for the delivery of change.
  • Responsible for the development, maintenance and documentation of processes and supporting information associated with project financial planning and management.
  • Build and manage key relationships and collaborate with partners and stakeholders across various levels, to align project financial requirements with the University's goals and standards.
  • Collaborate with Procurement partners as a centralised management point for project procurement and vendor management activities.
  • Be the main contact for Program/Project Managers and project teams on complex financial related issues.

About You

You are an experienced Commercial Manager - IT Projects or equivalent, with excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams. You have a proven ability in leading a team, can effectively achieve desired outcomes and adapt to changing circumstances.

Selection criteria

  • Relevant degree in a related discipline (e.g., Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Information Technology) and/or equivalent experience in commercial management.
  • A proven track record in successfully managing finances and preparing financial reporting for complex projects and programs, engaging multiple stakeholders and disciplines.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities to deliver to deadlines.
  • Proven ability to effectively influence and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing, improving and optimising processes to streamline and achieve efficiency.

Desirable criteria

  • Certifications relevant to project financial management.
  • Previous experience working with procurement and vendor management.
  • Previous experience working in the higher education, research, or similar sectors.
