Reporting to a Principal Legal Officer, the duties of the Senior Legal Officer are varied and include legal practice in the areas of general commercial law, property law, contracts and procurement.
The Senior Legal Officer may also be required to provide advice in other areas of practice including litigation and preparation of associated documentation and submissions, coronial investigations and inquests, administrative law and statutory interpretation, judicial review matters, anti-discrimination and human rights matters, and advice concerning operational practices and procedures.
In this role you will:
Provide authoritative legal advice (both written and oral) in the commercial practice areas listed above and in relation to QCS activities which may involve contentious issues, often of a complex and sensitive nature, the subject of litigation or under consideration by the Minister, Commissioner, executive leadership team and other senior officers.
Prepare timely advice, reports, correspondence and briefing notes on legal issues including statutory interpretation in relation to QCS activities and the law reform initiatives of external agencies.
Liaise with Crown Law and other legal service providers to ensure a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to the provision of legal services involving QCS. Undertake legal research, analysis, review and evaluation to ensure that QCS' activities, including its operations and procedures, satisfy public sector standards for accountability and effectiveness.
