About the opportunity
The Faculty of Health is seeking Casual Technical Assistants to support our Nursing and Midwifery disciplines across our simulation laboratories and practical teaching environments.
In this role, you’ll contribute to student learning and safety by providing behind-the-scenes, hands-on technical support, preparing simulated clinical setups and maintaining teaching equipment.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and setting up simulation equipment and realistic clinical environments for practical classes.
- Providing technical assistance to students and academic staff.
- Maintaining and repairing clinical teaching equipment and restocking supplies.
- Supporting safety, cleanliness and compliance within laboratory spaces.
- Liaising with academic staff on safe, current and effective use of simulation and clinical resources.
About you
You will be practical, flexible, and have a proactive approach to your work. You will also be well organised, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to safe practice in clinical training environments. More specifically, you will have:
- A relevant qualification (EN, RN, RM) and more than one year’s experience in a technical field or equivalent nursing and/or midwifery industry experience.
- Current Hepatitis B vaccination / serology.
- Strong skills in trouble-shooting and maintaining various laboratory equipment and technical systems.
- Confidence using and maintaining technical or medical equipment.
- Knowledge and application of WHS principles in laboratory and clinical environments.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical procedures to students and staff.
Experience operating and maintaining high and low fidelity simulation manikins, electronic and software applications is desirable, but not essential. Training will be provided.
Salary and benefits
Our staff benefit from flexible work arrangements including wellbeing initiatives, employee assistance programs and professional learning opportunities. These positions are:
- Casual, with a maximum of 28 hours per week.
- HEW Level 4. The hourly salary rate is $49.93, plus super.
