Lead daily train operations at V/Line. Manage disruptions, ensure safety, and drive performance across Victoria's regional rail network.

About the role

As a Duty Manager - Train Services, you'll be at the heart of V/Line's daily operations, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of regional and peri-urban train services across Victoria. This is a dynamic, high-impact role where you'll lead real-time service delivery, manage disruptions, and support operational teams to deliver exceptional outcomes for our passengers.

You'll act as the key decision-maker during your shift, representing Train Services in the day-of-operations environment. From coordinating incident responses, reporting on performance and driving continuous improvement initiatives, you'll play a vital role in shaping the performance and culture of our operations team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading minute-to-minute service delivery and disruption management
  • Acting as the first point of contact for operational issues and emergencies
  • Supporting safety leadership and injury management
  • Collaborating across teams to ensure resource readiness and service recovery
  • Providing timely reporting and escalation of incidents
  • Fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement

You'll work on a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays, providing critical coverage during operational hours. The role also involves responding to and managing critical incidents, requiring calm, decisive leadership and a strong understanding of safety protocols.

This is an on-site role based out of Southern Cross in Melbourne.

About you

You're a confident and experienced operations leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-stakes environments. With a strong background in transport or industrial operations, you bring a calm, solutions-focused mindset and a passion for service excellence.

You'll also bring:

  • Several years of operational and management experience, ideally in rail or a similar complex environment
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to lead under pressure
  • A collaborative approach and excellent communication skills
  • A commitment to safety, customer service, and continuous improvement
  • Desirable qualifications such as Certificate IV in Rail Network Control or ICAM training

Salary for this role is expected between $120k to $140k inclusive of superannuation. Duty Managers are also paid an additional allowance of $35k per year to compensate for the shift work, leave loading and on-call allowance as required in the role.

Recruitment Process
