Do you have a passion for working with young children and creating a warm and nurturing environment? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the team at Melbourne University Family Club Co-Operative Children’s Centre as a Pre-Kinder Educator.
Our centre is unique in its approach, offering a homely and family-like environment that provides children with a sense of security and belonging. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe and loved, and our educators play a crucial role in creating this atmosphere. Programming throughout the centre is built on the foundation of supporting each child social and emotional well being and development, we believe this leads positive outcomes for a child and develops a love of learning.
Our team comprises of newly qualified members through to very long-term members with most of our current Educators working at The Family Club for 5-10 years, and some as long as 30 years! We value and employ highly trained educators who share our commitment to early childhood education.

The Melbourne University Family Club is a not-for-profit childcare centre offering long day care and kindergarten services. Our small, inclusive, proudly parent-led co-op on Cardigan Street in Carlton has been helping university and local community members combine career and family since 1965.
The Position
As a Diploma trained Educator in the Pre-Kinder room. You will be responsible for creating a nurturing and engaging environment for children aged 2.5-3.5 years. You will work closely with our team of experienced educators to plan and implement a curriculum that promotes children's learning and development.
The position is initially for 7 months to cover an educators parental leave, but has the potential for extension if agreed by both parties.
MUFCC employs staff on The Professional Childcare Standard Agreement. We encourage a good work life balance, all Educators are paid 5% above the PCS award and work a 4 day week (68 hour fortnight).
Key responsibilities
Building positive relationships with children and families
Providing a safe and secure environment for children to explore and learn
Planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities and experiences
Observing and documenting children's learning and development
Collaborating with colleagues and families to ensure continuity of care and education
Commencing as a Diploma Assistant with the opportunity to take on a Room Leadership role in 2024
Success Criteria
The successful candidate will have:
A Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care
A passion for working with young children and a commitment to their development and wellbeing
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A positive and enthusiastic attitude
The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Starting Date
8th or 15th July 2025.

Very good educator to child ratio which allows for personalised attention for each child (Our staff/child ratios exceed the minimum requirements set by the National Quality Standards, with ratios of 1:4 for children aged 0-2 years and 1:3 for children aged 2-3 years, 1:6 3-4 year old Kinder age, plus extra Educators, floating, supporting planning and breaks)

Easy access to public transport, we are a 2 minute walk from the Number 1 and 6 trams stop on Lygon/Elgin St. We are also a 5 minute walk to the University of Melbourne tram stop where all trams on Swanston St from Flinders St or Melbourne Central Station run to. The ride from Melbourne Central to Uni of Melb. is less than 10 minutes (many staff also enjoy the walk in the warmer months)
