McDowall Outside School Hours Care is a large and busy service that caters to 160 children at before school care, 200 children at vacation care, and 350 children at after school care. We are requiring energetic, passionate, and proactive lead educators to join our team.
We are currently looking for:
Lead Educators with OSHC or long daycare experience and an approved qualification either completed or working towards for minimum of two years. This position would suit an experienced educator looking to further their career.
Casual qualified educators, or educators that have completed at least one year of full time study toward their ACECQA approved qualification and have the equivalent time of experience working with children over preschool age.
Approved qualifications include:
Early childhood, primary, secondary, or special education, etc.
Children's Services, Early Childhood Education and Care, School Aged Education and Care, or Education Support, etc.
Nursing, paramedicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, diversional therapy, speech pathology, Behavioural science, Psychology, etc.
Creative Arts, Fine Arts, Drama, Music, etc.
Community Services, Human welfare studies and services, Youth Work, Disability work,
Sport and recreation, Outdoor recreation, etc.

Our lead educators must be available every afternoon for after school care hours. There is room for number of mornings to be negotiable for the right candidate depending on the needs of the candidate and business - most of our lead educators do two to three before school care shifts. This position comes with 20 hours guaranteed each week, plus additional hours depending on availability and performance. Including the educator retention subsidy, our lead educators will earn between $37.75 and $38.88 depending on experience.
Our casual educators must be available for a minimum of three afternoons per week, however more availability is considered favourably. Mornings are optional. Including the educator retention subsidy, our casual educators will earn between $39.74 and $44.69 depending on qualifications and experience.
Your responsibilities include:
Lead educators lead a group of casual educators in one of our quality improvement groups including mentoring new educators, being a support and go-to for your group members, and supporting the management team in delivering a high-quality program across all standards.
Potential for training to be a Responsible Person in Day to Day charge when members of the management team are not present.
All educators
Deliver the before, after and vacation care programs under the supervision and direction of the OSHC Manager, Assistant Coordinators, and Educational Leader.
Build a healthy relationship with children and their families and maintain interactive or active supervision of children in your care at all times.
Assist in delivering the service in accordance with appropriate policies and standards.
Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all team members.
Program planning using the cycle of planning and ensuring the program is primarily child-led.
Your qualifications:
Experience in OSHC, long daycare, or relevant field working with primary aged children.
Qualification as per above completed, or working towards above qualification for a minimum of two years with two years working in a school-aged education and care setting.
Working knowledge of current child care legislation, including the MTOP framework, the National Quality Laws and Regulations will be highly regarded and previous experience working with children, preferably primary school-aged children, is not essential if the candidate holds a suitable qualification, but will be highly regarded.
Hold First Aid, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis management certifications or willing to obtain.
Leadership skills are highly beneficial in the lead educator position, however educators with OSHC/long daycare experience but no leadership experience are very welcome to apply.
Hold a valid working with children Blue Card prior to commencement due to updated no card no start laws - please apply for your card prior to applying for this job.
Our hours of operation are Monday to Friday as follows:
Before School 6:30am to 8:30am. Shifts vary from 6:00am-9:15am
After School 2:30pm to 6:30pm. Shifts vary from 1:30pm-6:45pm
Vacation Care (School Holidays) 6:30am to 6:30pm. Shifts vary from 6:00am to 6:45pm.
Vacation Care shifts will be prioritised for lead educators, who will be given the option of four eight hour days with one day off, or six hour shifts daily. Other arrangements can be negotiated based on the needs of the employee and the needs of the business.
