About the role

Mater Private Hospital Brisbane/Mater Hospital Brisbane (MPHB & MHB) has an opportunity for a Senior Finance Business Partner to join the team in this permanent, full-time position based in our South Brisbane campus.

Reporting to Finance and Operations Manager – MPHB & MHB, this role will see you supporting both facilities in the portfolio. This opportunity is for those looking to leverage their existing business partnering expertise, bringing knowledge and experience into a high functioning, multi skilled team and to join a market leader in healthcare.

Salary range: $136,034 - $145,990 (MCA 7) per annum plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

As our Senior Finance Business Partner, you will provide strategic financial leadership and direction, supporting the Finance and Operations Manager in delivering high-quality business partnering and management accounting support to key stakeholders.

Typical duties of the roles include:

  • Provide leadership and direction to Finance Business Partners and Assistant Finance Business Partners
  • Mentor and develop the team to maintain high technical expertise and business partnering skills
  • Coordinate the preparation of accurate and timely divisional performance reports on a monthly basis
  • Lead the facilities budget preparation tasks within activity-based funding constraints
  • Prepare accurate and insightful facility/corporate/Ministry performance reports on a monthly basis
  • Lead or participate actively in performance review meetings with facilities and cost centre management, provide valuable insights and recommendations for financial improvement
  • Coordinate facilities budget cycle tasks, including completing cost centre budgets and maintaining budget working papers and reports
  • Prepare regular facilities full-year forecasts, identify potential differences compared to annual budget targets, and develop recommendations to enhance financial performance
  • Maintain oversight of facilities funding arrangements
  • Ensure sustainable resource allocation planning at the facilities cost centre levels
  • Provide high-level business partner support to the Facilities Executive, including General Manager and Finance and Operations Manager
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead and support business case development relevant to your portfolio
  • Coordinate facilities capital investment planning tasks, including registering of requests, approved items and completing tracking of expenditure to approved budgets and reporting
  • Support the review of contractual agreements and grant proposals
  • Ensure that contracts and grant proposals align with organisational objectives, financial policies, and regulatory guidelines
  • Identify and communicate potential financial risks, opportunities, and requirements associated with contracts and grants to relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with procurement, project managers, and program coordinators to negotiate favourable terms and conditions
  • Proactively identify system and process improvements
  • Develop and deliver continued professional development programs for cost centre managers in financial management functions, enhancing technical expertise and business partnering skills within the Finance Business Partnering team

About you

To be successful in this role you will have relevant tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications including professional standing for current membership of a recognised Australian accounting body (CA/CPA).

  • Effective coordination and leadership of management accounting services within a large public or private health organisation
  • Development, leadership, and mentorship of high-performing teams in line with contemporary human resource management practices
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, consultation, and change management skills
  • Provision of effective advice and recommendations on financial matters within a large health organisation
  • Strategic thinking, analytical skills, and innovation in complex service planning and clinical activity management
  • Experience in business partnering in a large organisation
  • Proven ability to contribute to strategic decision making and identifying opportunities for improved financial outcomes
  • Demonstrated presentation and report writing skills
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with key stakeholders through understanding of their needs and objectives, whilst demonstrating/displaying the corporate values
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and commitments and the ability to anticipate problems and identify solutions
  • High level of proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience leveraging ERP (preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365)
  • Proven ability to use reporting tools such as TM1 and PowerBI to draw insights and drive decisions
