About the Inspections Team
Our professional inspection and superintendence services support our clients across several key commodity markets (agriculture, coal etc.) by representing and protecting their interests. Our representation ensures that quality and quantity requirements are supervised during loading or discharge.
The Cargo Inspector is autonomous in the field but works alongside their colleagues in the Inspections, Laboratory and Administration Departments in a way that supports our culture of collaboration and inclusion and is aligned to our values as a business.

About the Role
The responsibilities include conducting inspections of containerised and bulk vessel loading or discharge. This position requires a high level of professionalism, reliability, and accuracy. There is a particular focus on inspections of fats and oils (tallow), grains (wheat), protein meals, and energy materials (coal).
Analysis of energy materials and minerals at any point in the distribution chain must be performed with the utmost attention and best practice, and at Control Union we ensure this is delivered to our customers. The Cargo Inspector will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of quality and integrity in inspection services, providing excellent customer service and value to our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
To perform the inspection and sampling of commodities, specially energy materials, as per the require standards and procedures.
Timely sample collection, preparation, and delivery for analysis. Ensure that samples are sent with clear testing instructions in a timely manner to the laboratory for analysis.
To organise couriers and other suppliers so that samples are sent to laboratories in a timely and efficient manner.
Create comprehensive and accurate reports by gathering and analysing data, collaborating with stakeholders, and presenting findings clearly and timely.
To ensure that all reports are completed and sent to the required personnel as per the required timeframes, using MS Office.
To assist in the coordination of subcontractors used at other locations to ensure that the inspection, sampling, and reporting requirements are performed in a timely manner and standard.
Liaise with the office/vessel agents/terminals and or packing sites to ensure the seamless execution of the required superintendent services.
Corresponding with customers and management to ensure all work is conducted in a timely manner meeting all performance requirements.
To conduct other activities, including but not limited to hold inspections and hose tests when appropriately trained.
To ensure that port inductions and MSIC remain valid.
To manage work hours within the National Employment Scheme (NES) and company policies.
Maintenance of internal databases and QMS. Work with the Quality representative, leadership, management, and operational teams to ensure that the accreditations i.e. ISO, are maintained.
To assist, where directed, the Administration team in the execution of certificates and analytical reports.
To adhere to the companies Health and Safety policies.
About You - Traits, Skills, and Requirements
Related experience ideal.
Experience with the maintenance or use of quality systems i.e. ISO 17020 desirable.
Relevant qualifications or professional training / competency.
Bulk surveying experience highly regarded.
Ability to work autonomously and within a team to provide consistent, successful outcomes essential.
Excellent oral and written communication skills for report writing and administration.
Mature, self-driven, and proactive individual.
Strong customer service skills, with attention to detail and presentation.
Ability to liaise with stakeholders on all levels.
Professional personal presentation.
Willingness and ability to travel interstate to assist with services when required.
Ability to work shift work and outside of standard hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Must have a car and a valid and current driver's license.
