A key focus of the coming years will be working with the State and Federal Governments to establish Melbourne Airport Rail; to complete redevelopment of Sunshine and Albion Stations; and the realisation of the Sunshine Precinct Masterplan which will Sunshine transformed into a CBD, vastly increasing local jobs, housing, businesses, services and tourism to provide for the many tens of thousands of people living, working and travelling through the Brimbank.

We are currently seeking a part-time (4 days a week) permanent Maternal Child Health Nurse to join our team based at our offices in Sunshine and the Brimbank community.

The role
Reporting to a Team Leader, we are seeking a Maternal Child Health Nurse who can bring their skills and experience for:

  • Provide Maternal & Child Health activities to children from birth to 6 years at key development ages as specified by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)
  • Provide support, guidance information, intervention on child growth development, health and hygiene, nutrition, parenting and safety through individual and group consultancy discussion.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and up to date documentation for each child on the M&CH software program
  • Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of the service in accordance with community needs and the availability of resources

To be considered you will have:

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a general nurse and midwife
  • Qualification in Family and Child Health or equivalent
  • Ability to work with interpreters and a culturally and linguistically diverse community
  • Ability to assess children at risk and provide support, information, advocacy and referral when necessary.
  • An understanding of relevant legislation relating to Mandatory Reporting, Information Sharing and Family Violence legislation
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Competency Standards for the MCHN in Victoria 2010.
  • Ability to design, implement and evaluate a variety of health education programs.
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the requirements of the Privacy Act 2000.
  • An understanding and ability to use Information Technology systems specific to Maternal & Child Health.
  • Bi-lingual skills are an advantage.
