About Mental Health Division:

About the Role:
Are you a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurses (RN) who have a minimum of 12 months experience in Acute (general) nursing and are wanting to transition into the Mental ealth Nursing field.
The Registered Nurse Transition to Mental Health Nursing Program enables Registered Nurses who currently work in General nursing to Transition into Mental Health Nursing Practice while having the additional support of experienced nurses in the field.
Mental Health is a specialised field and Registered Nurses wanting to move into Mental Health Nursing field may find it difficult to get an opportunity to work in a Mental Health setting. If this applies to you, our 18-month program provides a great opportunity to expand on your mental health nursing knowledge and enable you to get a foot in the door of this specialised field of Nursing.
You will be supported by the Registered Nurse Transition to Mental Health Nursing Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Educators, other senior nurses and Preceptors while getting hands on experience in the clinical setting.
Registered Nurse Transition to Mental Health Nursing Program provides:
- Opportunities to work in Adult or Older Adults Inpatient Units or Community Mental Health.
- Part Time (0.8eft) positions available - July 2025 Commencement
- 18-months Transition to Mental Health Nursing Program including one year post graduate program.
- Dedicated education support and preceptorship
We will:
- Align your current classification, please note maximum classification is RPN 2 Year 8
- Establish a pathway and support you to complete your specialist mental health nursing qualification (PG) with one of our university partners
- Ongoing employment depending on available vacancies and career progression opportunities
We have strong mental health nursing representation across the division, good nursing leadership structures and a growing research program.
We actively encourage and support further study for nurses working towards their Masters and other specialist qualifications.
We have a lot to offer in terms of helping you build your career in mental health nursing.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Equivalent.
- A passion for mental health nursing and the desire to make a difference.
- 12 months post registration experience working as an RN.
