What you'll be doing
- The Safeguards Clinical Nurse Consultant 1 (CNC1) provides expert clinical advice to consumers, their families/carers and other health and social/education professionals within a defined specialty. The CNC position provides specialist mental health assessment, develops and facilitates implementation of treatment/care plans and care navigation.
- This position is based within the Safeguards Team, Perinatal Child and Youth Mental Health Services (PCYMHS), WSLHD and reports to the Safeguards Clinical Lead with professional responsibility to Director of Nursing – Mental Health, WSLHD.
- The Safeguards Team is a new multidisciplinary team and dedicated PCYMHS resource designed to provide trauma-informed, recovery focused and evidence-based care to children and adolescents aged 0 -17 years, experiencing mental health distress. This team is community based and provides short-term, rapid, mobile, and flexible care to resolve mental health distress, including comprehensive mental health assessment, care coordination and brief (single session) interventions. The team currently operates 5 days/week however it is expected that the service will expand to include after-hours support on some weekdays and/or on the weekend. The Safeguards team provides service delivery in the community (Schools, homes, hospital-based settings etc) for consumers and their families/carers across a range of modalities such as face to face, phone and telehealth.

Essential Requirements
- Qualification: Approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the organisation.
- Registration: Current Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
Selection Criteria
- Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience and a post graduate qualification in Mental Health/Child and Adolescent.
- Proven clinical leadership skills, ability to apply clinical expertise in patient-centred consultancy and both the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework and the capacity to work independently.
- Demonstrated effective communication, inter-personal skills and consistent demonstration of NSW Health CORE values across a variety of mediums and with a broad range of individuals (patients/consumers, members of the public, colleagues, management and key stakeholders). Knowledge of the practice. development framework to clinical practice.
- Demonstrated involvement in the development/change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence-based research.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
- Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
- Current NSW Driver’s License and willingness to use same as required for position.
