Job Title: Spray Painter's Assistant

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Spray Painter's Assistant to join our team. This role supports the spray painting team by preparing surfaces, mixing paints, and assisting in applying finishes to various materials. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail, excellent teamwork skills, and a willingness to learn and develop their craft within a supportive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Surface Preparation:

Assist in cleaning and preparing surfaces for painting, including sanding, priming, and masking areas that should not be painted.

Ensure all materials, parts, and equipment are clean, organized, and ready for the painting process.

Paint Mixing & Preparation:

Help mix paints, primers, and finishes according to specifications.

Ensure the proper consistency and colour matching of paint, and maintain accurate records for different projects.

Spray Painting Assistance:

Work alongside the lead spray painter to achieve the collective goal of efficient timing and high workmanship.

Safety & Cleanliness:

Ensure all work areas are kept clean and organized, adhering to company safety standards.

Assist in maintaining a safe and hazard-free environment by following OSHA guidelines and wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

Team Collaboration:

Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow.

Support fellow team members in completing tasks and offer help when needed to achieve shared goals.

Quality Control:

Ensure the final painted product meets quality standards by inspecting the surfaces for smoothness, consistency, and finish.

Assist in troubleshooting and correcting any defects or imperfections in the paint job. For example, buffing & polish, other forms of paint correction.

Inventory & Supply Management:

Track and manage paint supplies and materials, notifying the supervisor when stock is running low.

Help maintain proper inventory of all necessary tools and equipment.

Qualifications:

Prior experience in a painting or automotive body shop is a plus but not required.

Ability to work effectively within a team and take direction from supervisors.

Strong attention to detail and precision.

Knowledge of basic spray painting techniques and equipment is beneficial.

Willingness to learn and develop new skills.

Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs).

Good communication skills and a positive attitude.

Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace.

Working Conditions:

This position will require working in various environments, including both indoor and outdoor locations.

Some exposure to chemicals, fumes, and noise is expected. Proper PPE and safety measures will be provided and must be adhered to at all times.

Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks for the duration of the shift.
