About the Role
As a Disability Support Worker, you will work closely with individuals who have complex behaviours and high-level behavioural issues. You will be providing personalised care and support to enhance their quality of life. You will be responsible for assisting with daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the individuals you support. We focus on providing a human rights-based approach to a person centred care approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support to individuals with complex behaviours in accordance with their individual care plans.
- Assist with personal care, mobility, and daily activities, including meal preparation, medication administration, and household tasks.
- Develop and implement behavior management strategies to support individuals with challenging behaviors in a compassionate, calm, and effective manner.
- Monitor and document the progress of individuals, noting any significant changes in their behaviour or needs.
- Promote social inclusion and engagement in community activities, fostering a positive and empowering environment.
- Work closely with families, healthcare providers, and other professionals to ensure the holistic care of individuals.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including reporting any incidents, accidents, or concerns.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly those with complex behaviours (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, challenging behaviours).
- Demonstrated understanding of behaviour management techniques, including positive behaviour support (PBS).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals, families, and team members.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations with patience and empathy.
- A commitment to promoting independence and dignity for the individuals in your care.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Certificate III or IV in Disability, or other related fields) preferred but not mandatory.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in working with people with a range of disabilities, including physical, intellectual, and mental health conditions.
- Knowledge of NDIS standards and frameworks.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- NDIS Screening Clearance
- National Polie Check
- First Aid + CPR Certification
- COVID-19 Vaccination in accordance with NT Legislation
- NT Driver's Licence
