We are currently seeking an experienced Workplace Health and Safety Advisor to join this large QLD Government department. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a senior advisory role where your expertise will drive workplace health and safety excellence across a diverse and dynamic operational environment.
The Role
As the Principal WHS Advisor, you'll play a pivotal role in leading the delivery of workplace health and safety initiatives across the region. This includes providing expert guidance, driving continuous improvement in safety systems, and managing a team of safety professionals in a high-risk, field-based environment.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, your knowledge will directly influence the safety of operations in both the office and field, particularly in building, construction, and maintenance services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a regional WHS team, ensuring alignment with organisational policies and legislative requirements.
- Lead the investigation of incident and hazard investigations, producing reporting as required
- Provide high-level WHS&E advice to operational and senior management.
- Coordinate and deliver WHS training sessions and oversee regional training registers.
- Conduct and oversee audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Manage WHS compliance for both internal staff and external contractors.
- Lead development of safety management plans, risk assessments, and related systems.
- Report on health and safety KPIs and support staff rehabilitation efforts.
- Review Environmental and Safety Management System procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
- Manage the offices and depot to ensure emergency planning and response activities are completed.
About You
You're a confident communicator and collaborative leader with:
- Demonstrated experience in WHS, ideally within construction or government environments.
- Strong understanding of relevant WHS legislation, compliance, and best practices.
- Proven ability to manage teams, mentor staff, and influence positive safety outcomes.
- Relevant qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety.
- Experience within construction or maintenance-focused organisations is highly desirable.
