Assistant Director - Work, Health and Wellbeing | Canberra, ACT | ASAP - December 2025
We're looking for an experienced Assistant Director - Work, Health and Wellbeing to lead critical WHS and wellbeing initiatives, driving a proactive safety culture across an innovative development agency delivering urban and residential projects for the Canberra community.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Director of Work Health and Safety, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the Agency's commitment to the health, safety, and wellbeing of its people. You'll design and deliver WHS policies and wellbeing programs aligned with legislative requirements and strategic objectives, fostering positive partnerships across the organisation to embed a proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement WHS and wellbeing policies, procedures, and initiatives
- Oversee continuous improvement of the Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS)
- Provide expert advice and recommendations on WHS matters to leadership and staff
- Build and maintain proactive partnerships to enhance safety outcomes
- Develop briefings and reports for executive and board-level stakeholders
- Deliver WHS training and contribute to the staff induction program
- Support compliance monitoring, including onsite safety inspections
- Utilise systems to document, manage, and report WHS matters
Skills and Experience:
- Extensive experience in work health and safety and wellbeing across diverse environments
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and its practical application
- Proven ability to develop and implement safety policies and initiatives
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and time-critical projects
- Experience delivering WHS training and reporting to executive leadership
Qualifications:
- Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety (mandatory)
- Current Driver's Licence (Class C, mandatory)

- Work Rights: Must have valid Australian working rights
- Pre-employment Checks: May include Reference Checks, National Police Check, Worker Screening Checks, and Working with Children Check as required
