About the role

As the Principal Education Officer, you will be responsible for identifying, designing, delivering and evaluating engaging educational initiatives to enhance stakeholders’ understanding of information access and privacy rights and responsibilities. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual who:

has experience in interpreting and applying rights and responsibilities applicable under legislation, ideally with experience of the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) (RTI Act) and Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act).

has experience in designing and delivering a range of effective, targeted educational initiatives, both online and in-person.

is skilled in creating engaging training materials, including presentations, session plans, and supplementary resources.

can effectively analyse training needs and recommend solutions to address knowledge or skill gaps.

thrives in a collaborative environment and can build strong stakeholder relationships; and

is committed to continuous improvement and innovation in education delivery.

This is a permanent, full-time (flexible) position offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on education and awareness of information access and privacy rights and responsibilities. You will work in a supportive, inclusive environment that values collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

Design, develop and evaluate engaging educational activities, including face-to-face and online training approaches relevant to the RTI Act and IP Act.

Deliver and facilitate sessions across Queensland locations and via webinars.

Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure content aligns with key messaging.

Manage training administration, logistics, and record-keeping.

Conduct training needs analysis and recommend effective solutions for skills gaps.

Continuously improve or reinterpret training initiatives based on feedback and performance metrics.

Oversee the Learning Management System for external users.

Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

We report to the Queensland Parliament and carry out functions under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld), and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld). Our purpose, as a contemporary regulator, is to promote and independently uphold information access and privacy rights. We facilitate greater and easier public access to government-held information and assist agencies understand their obligations under the IP Act to safeguard the personal information that they hold. Our office reviews agency decisions about access to information, mediates privacy complaints, and monitors and reports on agency compliance to Parliament.
