Job location
Forensicare provides specialist forensic mental health services across 12 of Victoria’s 14 prisons with expansion underway to include Western Plains in the Barwon region. This position based at Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne's west, provides 75 prison-based custodial mental health beds as well as assessments and outpatient services provided in maximum-security forensic mental health complex within the medium-security prison.
About the Role:
The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for providing the multidisciplinary team (MDT) with support in relation to the development, implementation and evaluation of quality initiatives. The Clinical Coordinator will also be responsible for the allocation of patients to care coordination streams, including allocation to specific Key Nurses/Clinicians taking into account the individual patient needs, the strengths of each staff member, and the patient cohort within each stream.
The Clinical Coordinator will have a pivotal role in the establishment and maintenance of a high-quality standard of clinical care, and ensure practices are in alignment with the National Safety and Quality Health Standards, National Standards for Mental Health Services, Justice Health Quality Framework Standards and the Correctional Management Standards for Men’s Prisons in Victoria.
The position is also responsible for providing nursing staff on the Unit with supervision and support, and ensuring a high standard of Unit based interagency engagement with GEO Prison and Clinical staff, Correct Care Australasia staff and Alliance Partners.
The Clinical Coordinator will work closely with the FMH Triage and Referral Coordinator and the Prison Access Flow Coordinator to determine the priority and timing of each admission to the Unit
About You:
- Demonstrate experience translating knowledge of current Australian College of Mental Health Nursing standards of practice, contemporary forensic mental health nursing practices and relevant legislation into practice, coupled with significant post registration experience in a similar role.
- Thorough understanding and demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer Recovery, including the modelling and leading of Recovery focused initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan and undertake comprehensive nursing assessments of mentally ill patients.
What you need:
- Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).

Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues. It is able to provide specialist forensic mental health services tailored to meet the specific needs of both sectors.
We provide forensic mental health services for people:
with a serious mental illness in the criminal justice system
at risk of offending who pose a risk to themselves or others
referred from the general mental health system for specialist advice, support and/or treatment.
