About the opportunity
The Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking a qualified Diving Officer to join our team. In this part-time role, you’ll be the University’s subject matter expert for diving activities, working with researchers, staff and postgraduate students to build a strong safety culture and ensure regulatory and workplace compliance. In this role, you will:
- Provide expert advice and guidance to researchers, staff and postgraduate students on diving legislation, standards and safe work practices.
- Maintain accurate records of diver training and qualifications, equipment and maintenance, and dive approvals and associated paperwork.
- Support fieldwork planning and logistics, with possibility for occasional field-based work to conduct site audits, if required.
- Assist with risk assessments, dive planning, and ongoing safety reviews.
About you
You’ll bring a combination of regulatory knowledge, hands-on diving experience and the ability to confidently work across diverse teams to ensure our diving operations are safe, effective and forward-thinking. More specifically, you will have:
- Minimum recreational Divemaster (or instructor) qualifications, or extensive experience and a Certificate in Training and Assessment.
- Minimum ADAS Part 1 Restricted (AS 2815.1) certification with demonstrated relevant scientific/commercial diving experience.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting legislation, and advising on compliance and safety procedures in diving operations.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills, including accurate record keeping and ability to meet deadlines independently.
- A collaborative approach with the ability to build capacity in others and foster a strong safety-first culture.
Salary and benefits

- Part-time (60%), fixed term (2 years)
- Located at Lismore, NSW 2480 or Coffs Harbour, NSW 2450. Remote options may be considered for the ideal candidate. Generous relocation support available.
- HEW Level 6. The base salary ranges from $92,716 - $101,691 (full-time equivalent) per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $118,978 (pro-rata to 60%).
