About This Opportunity
The primary focus of the Team Leader, Outreach and Engagement is to advance the ATSIS Unit's critical mission of boosting the recruitment, retention, academic success, and graduation rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at UQ. You will play a key part in positioning UQ as the preferred university for Indigenous students and contribute to the development and coordination of impactful programs and events.
Key responsibilities will include:
Lead Strategic Outreach & Engagement
- Spearhead the management, design, development, and implementation of outreach and engagement programs that elevate awareness of post-secondary pathways and careers, fostering student confidence and preparedness for university.
Manage & Develop Outreach Team
- Lead and supervise a team of Outreach & Engagement Officers, ensuring effective program delivery through workload management, wellbeing support, safety protocols, and performance development.
Cultivate Key Partnerships
- Forge and maintain strong networks with internal and external stakeholders, including industry, government, and philanthropic partners, to enhance outreach and engagement initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Oversee Program Delivery & Evaluation
- Direct the development of communication materials, ensure program compliance with UQ policy, and lead the continuous monitoring, evaluation, and quality improvement of all outreach and engagement programs and activities.
Kindly note occasional travel, and occasional weekend work will be required.
About You
The University of Queensland considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) and the filling of this position constitutes a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth). The position is therefore only open to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
- Degree/qualifications with 3+ years relevant experience in student services and project/event management, coupled with a demonstrated understanding of secondary and tertiary education systems and the barriers impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' higher education aspirations.
- Proven experience in the design, management, and delivery of collaborative programs, including the capacity to manage multiple priorities and achieve outcomes effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise staff (prioritising workload, wellbeing, and performance) and experience in building and maintaining positive relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, schools, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor and evaluate program outcomes, including post-event analysis and reporting.
- Possession of a valid Queensland driver's license.
- Blue Card: Required possession of or eligibility to obtain a current blue card.
