About the role
What we are looking for:
We are seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to help implement our Climate Change strategies and programs. As the Senior Climate Change Action Officer, you will work collaboratively with the Climate and Open Space Planning team to deliver environmental and climate outcomes.
Ideally you will have strong communication and engagement skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with our team on a diverse portfolio of climate change focused strategies, policies, programs and projects.
Your primary purpose in this position is to:
· Effectively assist in the development and implementation of climate change action related strategies, programs and initiatives across the municipality to address the challenge of climate change.
- Conduct research and analysis on climate change trends, impacts and mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with government agencies, nonprofits, and private sector partners to promote climate resilience.
- Assist with monitoring and analysing Council's emissions and progress to, and beyond, net zero.
- Identify funding opportunities to support Council and community climate change action.
- Provide guidance, support and assistance to staff, residents and other stakeholders regarding climate change related matters.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of climate change adaptation and mitigation, urban forest, sustainability planning, strategic environmental management or other related fields. Knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation principles, along with their practical application in the community, is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must, as is the ability to collaborate within a close-knit team and work independently. Experience delivering strategic climate change policy, programs or strategies within a government context will be viewed favourably.

You may be required to undertake practical testing, work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical) or aptitude testing.
The successful candidate will be asked to present a current Victorian Drivers Licence, Working with Children Check and will be asked to consent to a national police check (and where relevant an 'international criminal history check'), subject to the operation of spent conviction laws.
