We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Senior Consultant to join our small, dedicated team. In this role, you will support a diverse range of government and not-for-profit clients to plan, implement, monitor, and review their Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) and other strategic initiatives. Reporting to a Project Director on a per-project basis, you will apply your expertise in strategic and implementation planning, Aboriginal outcomes, and systems thinking to deliver high-quality, practical strategies that empower organisations to succeed.
About Kaala Barna
We are an Aboriginal-owned and -operated consultancy based on Noongar Boodja, grounded in the values of Respect, Spirit, Justice, Empowerment, and Integrity. We specialise in guiding organisations through meaningful and sustainable pathways to improve Aboriginal outcomes in strategic planning, evaluation and stakeholder engagement. At Kaala Barna, we prioritise relationships and impact over rigid schedules, and we work collaboratively to ensure both our team and our clients thrive. We genuinely care about fit; your wellbeing and satisfaction in the role are as important to us as the work we do.
Senior Consultant
RAPs are currently the only structured framework many organisations have to progress Aboriginal outcomes. Our goal is to ensure that when organisations choose to develop a RAP, it is not a tick-box exercise but a robust, strategic tool that drives real, positive change. The senior consultant will strengthen our capacity to deliver outstanding planning, advisory, and implementation support.
Key Responsibilities
Actively uphold and promote Kaala Barna’s values in all work and relationships.
Lead or contribute to the development of strategic plans, implementation plans, and monitoring frameworks.
Provide high-level advice to clients on achieving impactful Aboriginal outcomes, embedding systems thinking and culturally grounded strategies.
Work closely with clients, project directors, and stakeholders to co-design practical and sustainable plans.
Produce high-quality, clear, and compelling written deliverables (e.g. strategies, reports, briefings, and presentations).
Maintain strong attention to detail and strive to uphold best practices in project planning and delivery.
Manage project timelines effectively, ensuring milestones are met while maintaining clear communication with team members and clients.
