This position works with the Child Development Council (CDC). CDC is a statutory body, who monitor, advise and report on how young South Australians are faring. As a trusted and independent source of data-driven insights, the CDC helps policymakers make better decisions for South Australians aged birth to 18 years.
Established under the Children and Young People (Oversight and Advocacy Bodies) Act 2016, the CDC reports to the Minister for Education, Training and Skills.
The CDC is responsible for South Australia's:
Outcomes Framework for Children and Young People
Report Card for Children and Young People
Charter for Children and Young People, and Charter Ambassador Program
Your new role:
The Senior Statistician role sits within the Council's Secretariat, and reports to the Manager, Child Development Council.
The Senior Statistician:
Undertakes complex data analysis and reporting activities to longitudinally track and report the outcomes of young South Australians
Finds innovative ways to translate and communicate statistical information to inform and influence the decisions of government and non-government policy makers
Provides expert advice on a broad range of issues and identifies implications arising from the data analysis to contribute to the Council's strategic objectives
Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with key data custodians including negotiating guidelines and procedures for data sharing.
Qualifications:
Essential: Nil.
Desirable:
Relevant tertiary qualification eg Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Data Analytics
Relevant experience in programming languages such as R, Python, Matlab or STATA
Experience using R packages, such as Tidyverse, Leaflet and Plotly
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN-EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.
