Detailed Description

Lifetime Learner Experience (LLE) Unit is part of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Students portfolio and enables the alignment of a range of learner acquisition, administration and assurance activities which are critical to the success of the UTS 2027 Strategy and in supporting the UTS Vision.

The LLE Unit comprises three areas:

  • Future Learners - Student Recruitment, Scholarships and Admissions
  • Current Learners - Student Administration functions
  • Operations - Workforce Management, Continuous Improvement and Government Reporting

The Government Reporting team sits within the Operations area and is responsible for the timely reporting of student statistical collections to the Commonwealth Department of Education and ensures data reported from the university's student management system (CASS) is compliant with the government's specifications for Tertiary Collection of Student Information (TCSI). Staff in this team work collaboratively with other teams at UTS to ensure reported data is complete and accurate and that compliance timeframes are met.

About the role

The Manager, Government Reporting reports to the Head, LLE Operations to manage the reporting team that is responsible for the statutory reporting of student data to the Commonwealth Department of Education to thereby ensure the university's student data reporting activities and obligations are compliant under the Higher Education Support Act (HESA).

In managing the reporting team, the Manager has oversight of staff resource allocation to ensure the delivery of multiple concurrent reporting activities transmitting high volumes of data that take place in near-real time, continually and year-round, concurrently with error-handling procedures to maintain complete and accurate reporting outputs within uninterrupted and compliant timeframes.

The Manager establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with stakeholder teams to ensure that business processes are correctly capturing and recording student data, that new legislative requirements and institutional process updates are implemented in the student management system and to maintain current sector knowledge on requirements for student data reporting through ongoing liaison with the Department of Education and student systems vendors.

Essential skills and experience:

To be successful in the role you will require:

  • Outstanding verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence, collaborate and achieve jointly required outcomes.
  • Experience in interpreting complex legislation and regulations and in operationalising new requirements through analysis, design and testing into the production environment.
  • Experience in managing a team in a complex technical environment requiring a high level of interactivity and collaboration with limited resources.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the higher education sector and its business processes.
  • Excellent time, organisation and project management skills, including the ability to develop project plans, meet deadlines, with the ability to consistently show a high level of initiative

Remuneration

Base Salary Range: $119,041 - $135,575 pa (HEW 8)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.
