The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) is currently seeking applications for a Senior Information Access Officer, to join the FOI & Privacy section.

This ongoing hybrid/flexible position can be in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney

Remuneration: The annual salary range for the position is APS6 - $94,563 - $106,394 p.a., plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.

About the opportunity:

On establishment of the Administrative Review Tribunal a new FOI & Privacy team was created within the Legal branch consolidating all FOI & Privacy functions previously undertaken across the Tribunal.

This is a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to be involved in all aspects of FOI & Privacy at an interesting and critical time for the organisation.

As well as the daily case related and corporate FOI processing and Privacy related tasks, candidates will utilise their varied skills to work flexibly on a range of tasks and projects involved in establishing the functions and processes of the new section.

In this role you will work alongside other Senior Information Access Officers of the FOI & Privacy section and may be responsible for leading APS4 Information Access Officers and APS5 Information Access Specialists in administering the FOI and Privacy Acts within the Tribunal. The role monitors and manages workloads and resources and provides reporting and advice to senior leaders to ensure the Tribunal’s compliance with requirements of those Acts.

This role also manages a caseload of complex or significant case related and corporate FOI & Privacy matters and proactively undertakes business improvement projects in relation to best practice FOI and Privacy related processes.

About you:

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in administering the FOI Act and the Privacy Act
  • Well-developed research and analytical skills
  • Well-developed organisational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a small team
  • An understanding of (or ability to quickly acquire) the Tribunal’s operations and legislative framework.

Essential:

  • Previous knowledge of or experience in Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts.

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) conducts independent merits review of administrative decisions made under Commonwealth laws. We review decisions made by Australian Government ministers, departments and agencies and, in limited circumstances, decisions made by state government and non-government bodies. We also review decisions made under Norfolk Island laws.

The AAT was established by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal Act 1975 and commenced operations on 1 July 1976.

On 1 July 2015 the Migration Review Tribunal, Refugee Review Tribunal and Social Security Appeals Tribunal were merged with the AAT.
