Position Title: Chef

Overview:

The Chef is the cornerstone of our culinary operations, responsible for creating and maintaining a high standard of food quality and presentation. This role encompasses all aspects of kitchen management, including menu planning, food preparation, staff supervision, and inventory control. The Chef plays a crucial role in ensuring customer satisfaction and driving the establishment’s reputation through exceptional dining experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Menu Development:

- Design innovative and seasonal menus that reflect current food trends and customer preferences.

- Collaborate with management to incorporate cost-effective yet high-quality ingredients.

- Regularly update the menu based on customer feedback and seasonal availability.

2. Food Preparation:

- Oversee all food preparation and cooking activities, ensuring dishes are prepared to high standards of quality, taste, and presentation.

- Implement cooking techniques and presentation styles that enhance the guest experience.

- Ensure that all recipes are followed accurately to maintain consistency in flavor and quality.

3. Kitchen Management:

- Lead and supervise the kitchen staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.

- Foster a positive, team-oriented environment that encourages creativity and collaboration.

- Ensure that all kitchen operations run smoothly and efficiently.

4. Health and Safety Compliance:

- Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation guidelines, ensuring compliance with local health regulations.

- Conduct regular kitchen inspections to ensure cleanliness and organization.

- Implement training programs for staff on safe food handling and kitchen safety practices.

5. Inventory Control:

- Monitor inventory levels, placing orders as necessary to maintain stock without over-purchasing.

- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure quality ingredients are sourced.

- Control food costs through effective inventory management and minimizing waste.

6. Customer Engagement:

- Interact with guests when appropriate to receive feedback and enhance their dining experience.

- Address any customer complaints or concerns promptly and professionally.

- Stay informed about customer preferences and trends to continuously improve the dining experience.

7. Budget Management:

- Assist in developing and managing the kitchen budget, ensuring financial targets are met.

- Analyse food costs and adjust menu pricing as necessary to maintain profitability.

- Track and report on food and labour costs to identify areas for improvement.

8. Collaboration with Management:

- Work closely with restaurant management to develop promotional events and special menus.

- Participate in regular meetings to discuss business performance, staffing needs, and operational improvements.

- Provide insights on market trends and customer preferences to inform business strategies.

Qualifications:

  1. Education:

Certificate III, Certificate IV in Cookery and Diploma Of Hospitality Management

  1. Experience:

Minimum 1 years of experience as a Chef or in a similar role, preferably in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

Proven track record of menu development and kitchen management.

  1. Language Ability:

Must have competent English level and should be bilingual as we have multi-cultural Customers.

  1. Skills

Strong culinary skills and a deep understanding of various cooking techniques.

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate a diverse kitchen team.

Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Proficient in food safety regulations and best practices.

  1. Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects as necessary.

Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with high pressure.
